Publisher's summary

Some secrets just can't stay buried, in the brilliant new Lucas Davenport thriller from the number-one New York Times- bestselling author. "One of the best," said Kirkus Reviews of Storm Prey. "Razor-sharp dialogue, a tautly controlled pace and enough homicides for a miniseries. What more could fans want?"

A house demolition provides an unpleasant surprise for Minneapolis - the bodies of two girls, wrapped in plastic. It looks like they've been there a long time. Lucas Davenport knows exactly how long.In 1985, Davenport was a young cop with a reputation for recklessness, and the girls' disappearance was a big deal. His bosses ultimately declared the case closed, but he never agreed with that. Now that he has a chance to investigate it all over again, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: It wasn't just the bodies that were buried. It was the truth.

lose the music

They have too lose that random weird music. It's jarring and completely out of place.

Great Start to Finish

Major twists and turns and a major sadness in this book. It is a page turner. I just hope Sanford is not planning to slow down on Davenport novels.

Inconsistency...

I love John Sandford's Prey books. However, this one, I had troubles with this one. Storm Prey, the previous book, has a section of Marcy talking with Weather about their kids. Who's was cutest, that type of thing. This book has Marcy considering getting married and having kids. Out of order. I looked back to be sure of the book order and will double-check content, but I know I'm correct.

Welcome back, Lucas!

Extremely well written, narrated and produced. I took longer walks and drives to hear more. I've been reading this series for ages. However, the ones of late seemed a bit (I hate to say this but) stale. This book revitalizes the series and gives you back that whole ticking time bomb intensity.

Another good one from Mr. Sandford

Would you listen to Buried Prey again? Why?

Absolutely! Because his characters are so rich. For instance, the cabin by the lake? I could see it, I visualized the neighbors, the garage, the retired policeman's kitchen. I swear, I could smell the stale cigarettes.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, just wanting the creep to be caught.

What does Richard Ferrone bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Well, first he allows me to do my ironing (dusting, dishes, etc.) whilst listening to the story. Second, I appreciate that he does the thinking for me. I mean, I don't have to go back and reread, wondering "what did the author mean by that?"...Mr. Ferrone is spot on with his performance, every time!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Always with Sandford.

Any additional comments?

Yes, I can't get enough of Virgil ("eff bomb")Flowers...so please don't put him in the book for l/4 of a chapter. I found this book when I searched for him and I get a few lines? Not cool. Lucas is a nice substitute, but I was looking forward to Virgil that day. In addition, regarding Lucas Davenport, I'm a bit tired of the pretentiousness i.e., the Lexus, the fancy clothes, fancy house. I'm just saying.........

What's the deal with Marcy?

In "Storm Prey" Marcy Sherrill is married with a small son, but now in "Buried Prey" she is unmarried and childless. Disappointed in this in consistency. Otherwise, I enjoyed the book.

Continued Excellence

Have not yet been bored or disappointed by any of the Lucas Davenport series. Its like returning to old friends and you want to see how their lives have been since the last visit. Great story lines and characters (good guys not the killers!) that you wish really existed and this one is no exception. Richard Ferrone is one of my favorites. Wish he did more.
