Publisher's summary

Rome, once mighty, lies in ruins. The city swarms with suffering and degradation, her citizens living in the shadow of the ruthless Borgia family. Only one man can free the people from the Borgia tyranny - Ezio Auditore, the master assassin.

Ezio's quest will test him to his limits. Cesare Borgia, a man more villainous and dangerous than his father, the Pope, will not rest until he has conquered Italy. And in such treacherous times, conspiracy is everywhere - even within the ranks of the Brotherhood itself.

Great, but . . .

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it is a solid continuation of the story line began in the first book.

What other book might you compare Brotherhood to and why?

Historical fiction books. Some characters have real names and places but circumstances are not real.

What does Gildart Jackson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

As in the first, his performance is excellent. Character vocalizations are consistent and help bring the story depth and life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I don't get overly emotional. sorry.

Any additional comments?

This is the second book from the video game series. As in my first review, this book is also excellent. The action is virtually non stop. Oliver Bowden does an excellent job of moving from one scene to another without missing a beat.

Gildert Jackson, the narrator, continues his excellent portrayal of all characters with consistency.

I honestly do not know how closely it mimics the games actions but it does not matter in the least. If you love adventure and action it is well worth the credit. If there are any issues that I found it has to be the seemingly cliche ending of books or movies of these time periods. Nevertheless, it will not ruin the ride. If you liked the first, the second book will not disappoint.

Driven by the Narrator

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

As with the first book, I would recommend this book to any fan of the Assassin's Creed games as it brings you back into the world of Ezio.

What does Gildart Jackson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Gildart Jackson was meant to narrate these books. His ability to nail the characters and bring out their personalities is amazing. He blew away my expectations: with this being a story that focuses a lot of the interactions and emotions of its characters, a good narrator is needed to keep everything together and to carry the listener through the story. I can't think of any way to make the narration any better.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

In a word, yes.

Almost as good as a walkthrough video

I’m listening to the series in the same order as the games came out. Each story gets a little better and adds more background information. It’s a nice way to “replay” the games when I can’t actually play or watch an old let’s play

The Story was strong but the execution mediocre

This probably should be classed as a YA novel, although I find that pulp YA’s tend to be better than their adult counterparts. For one, they don’t tend to be overly reliant on sex as a plot element, nor do they make heavy use of four letter words making for a more readable story. It was interesting enough that I found myself looking up historical characters such as the Borgias or Catherina Sforza and was pleased to discover it fit fairly well into what is known of historical events. The writing, had some limitations and tended to be repetitive. Probably the most irritating single feature was overuse of the main characters name. The word Ezio showed up in at least every other sentence for entire chapters as if the reader was going to get confused as to who the story was about. It rarely strayed away from the main character, even when it should have. The writer could also have made better use of some of the highly interesting characters woven into the story. Nicolo Machiavellifor example, is one who should have been expanded upon. Unfortunately he tends to be portrayed as rather a sinister comic book character, when in fact he was a rather astute observer of the politics of his time. There was a strong story built into the video game this novel was based on and the author uses it well. To its credit, video game elements were used sparingly, such as races and climbing buildings. The author does a fair job of translating a video game into a novel that provided an entertaining few hours.

great story and narration

I really enjoyed this entry into the Assassin's Creed novels it builds upon the last one and fixes a couple of inconsistencies between the game and the previous book and generally I feel that the writing got a bit better speaking ass on Assassin's Creed fan if you like the games you will love the book

Consistently good read!

Good narrative with too many life ikr death situations that ended up almost unbelievable if it were to actually take place... but you wish the best anyway
