    "Another Meander with Aurora"

In this installment we jump over the possible double lover dilemma that ended the first book and go straight into the aftermath of both a failed relationship and the death of a friend. It is another slow meandering stroll through Roe's life and it is mostly pleasant, witty, and humorous enough. The biggest problem with this story is that, even more so than in the first, the solution to the mystery is revealed rather than solved. The action at the end seems more than a little implausible as well. Moreover, we discover at the end that if Roe had been a little more methodical and a little less clever in the beginning, there would have been no mystery for her to solve--or attempt to solve, rather.

The narrator does a generally good job, but she does not use a Southern accent and her nasally voice doesn't hint of the South.

Still, this is a mildly enjoyable pleasant stroll through Aurora Teagarden's evolving life and worth the few hours of listening.

    "Team Teagarden All the Way!!!"
Where does Bone to Pick rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Bone to Pick ranks pretty high among the audiobooks I have consumed. It kept my attention start to finish.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, it was engaging, funny, and an enjoyable read (listen).

Which character – as performed by Therese Plummer – was your favorite?

All of them. Some books really don't transfer well to audio, mainly because the characters are not distinctive enough for you to recognize them based on their actions/attitudes/tone. But Ms. Harris defined distinct characters who stand out alone.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes it was, and yes I did.

    "A BONE TO PICK"

The more I listen to these stories, the more I enjoy listening. This is the second in the series and I like the style and wit of "Ro". She's quite down to earth and very likeable. Ready for book three. Enjoy.

I was a 'readaholic' for most of my life. I started crochet and other hobbies. That took away from my reading time. I discovered audio books at the library. That set me off. now, that I am older my eyes make it too difficult to read. So I now am a very diligent audio book listener!

    "Worse then book one"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This is not a book for those who enjoy mysteries and like topics. It is too simple and incomplete. Book one ended with Aurora having two potential beaus. Book two starts off with both of them gone out of her life. No real explanations are given. They are just written out. Aurora had an apparently strong and personal relationship with her father and six year old half brother in book one. They are dropped out by moving across the country. Aurora's strong and influential mother is married off. She is sent out of the country. Aurora's library in book one is shown to be in a strong state of being. Suddenly, without any apparent factors it is given budget cuts. She is laid off. In book one there was barely enough staff to cover the daylight hours. A staff member in book one (who was a murder suspect) is admitted to the hospital. Another who helps out and is a factor in this book, dies just prior to its start. Nothing is said about how the library with recently extended hours and now short by at least 3 employees is coping. So many factors and expectations are dropped or ignored. An example; It is implied that Aurora is depressed about so many around her getting married. She is lonely. A new beau just pops into Aurora's life. There is no build up showing how previous contact would influence this. He appears as easily as other characters disappeared. Aurora has non existent character development in light of all things and events surrounding her. She stumbles through. It is hard to comment on the ending without spoiling it. But Aurora destroys a valuable piece of evidence. That evidence would show why the apparent murders happen. It would have shown that one of the apparent victims is in fact about to perpetrate a foul crime. He is killed as a result of this. Aurora's reason for destroying it is weak and stupid. This is more so since she studies murder and crime as a hobby. She definitively should know better. Apparently having the suspects tried for a more serious crime is fine by her.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I do not know. I do know that I will not hear any more of this series. I enjoy Charlaine Harris and Therese Plummer. I am not put off by this series.

Which character – as performed by Therese Plummer – was your favorite?

I enjoyed most of them. I have no real favorites.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Bone to Pick?

I would have cut the attorney scenes except where he tells her about the will and contents. The picnic scene that Aurora uses to help her solve the mystery would have to be cut or rewritten. I would have insisted on a better character and plot development. I also would point out that supporting characters should add something to the story. Otherwise they are a waste of space.

    Any additional comments?

I am not sure why this series has such a high rating. Book one and two are very weak. Only the fact that I enjoyed Charlaine Harris and Therese Plummer motivated me to give these books a try. Maybe my expectations are to high.

    "Another Aurora Teagarden hit"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely - but only to my friends who are lovers of mystery. Roe Teagarden is a fun character, and this novel provides a solid mystery.

What other book might you compare Bone to Pick to and why?

This book had a Mary Higgins Clark feel to it - it is definitely not a cozy mystery, if that is what someone is looking for. What it is: a fab mystery with a strong heroine and an interesting story.

Which character – as performed by Therese Plummer – was your favorite?

Aurora Teagarden - but I loved all the characters. Plummer really brings life to the story, and I think it would be a different experience if I had read it. She really sells the story.

    "Early Entry in the Series"

My introduction to Charlaine Harris was the Aurora Teagarden series. I read the early books and loved them. I was delighted when I found this series on Audible (and I suspect I have the later, very popular, vampire series to thank for that.)

This story sets the stage for Aurora's later adventures. Aurora matures as the series goes on, and I find the later books more interesting and fun. Even so, it was good to be reminded of how it all began.

You will not find anything supernatural in this series. However, you will find interesting characters, good mysteries and a little romance. The violence is not excessive, the language is not offensive. These are light entertaining stories.

Therese Plummer is excellent. She makes Aurora and all the characters seem real.
