"First book I didn't bother to finish"
    Any additional comments?

This is the first book EVER (written or audio) that I didn't finish. I tired on two occasions but just couldn't get into it. I had trouble understanding the narrator's voice and finally just gave up. A major disappointment for me. I've enjoyed Dick Francis' other works but have never tried an audio version of his books. Never again.

    "Didn't hold my attention"

This author was recommended to me as an author who writes mysteries with little or no undesirable language. I avoided his books for quite awhile because I just didn't think I'd enjoy mysteries about horses and horse racing. I listened for about 2 hours, and I'll agree that the language was acceptable - except for one point where a character is upset and he exclaims "J**** Ch****. However, the story just did not interest me. I bought the book during one of Audible's sales, and only paid $5 for it, so I saw it as an opportunity to try a book by this author. Glad I didn't pay more for it.

    "Vintage Dick Francis"

Dick Francis writes interesting novels with an appealing hero and a villainous villain. Honor and duty play a big part in this short novel and good wins the day. But the plot moves forward with vigor and the characters (other than the villain) are nicely drawn and vivid. Francis writes the racing scenes exceedingly well and I almost feel like I'm on the horse along with the jockey. Light reading and very entertaining.

The narrator is excellent, lending much to the book.

"A Good Story by A Great Mystery Writer"
What made the experience of listening to Bolt the most enjoyable?

I love Disk Francis Mysteries. He was a truly good writer.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Bolt?

The twist in the story who was killing the horses was revealed. I didn't expect it, I thought he was thrown in to the story to get you off focus.

What does Simon Prebble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I have listened to a few of Mr. Prebble's narratives. I have enjoyed his reading, he helps bring the books to life.

    "Dick Francis is the best!"
Where does Bolt rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    One of my favorites.

What did you like best about this story?

Dick Francis is a master story teller that weaves all the pieces together by the suspenseful end of his tales.

Which character – as performed by Simon Prebble – was your favorite?

Simon Prebble is adept at making all characters come to life and you never notice the story is told by only one person. I look for him as a narrator to find new authors books!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but I wanted more at the same time.

"Another Pleasant Whodunit by a British Jockey"

Bolt by Dick Francis is a pleasantly paced Whodunit with the intelligent British style that makes reading or listening a pleasure. It fascinates me that a Welch writer who quit school at 15 can write so much better than many American writers who have forced themselves through various graduate degrees. One wonders if it is the water, the latitude, or the educational system.

"The best book he has written!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Bolt to be better than the print version?

I always enjoy the audio more. I have read many of Dick Francis books before getting my
I-Pod. The readers accent helps me stay in England throughout the book.

What did you like best about this story?

It held me from beginning to end. I went back after listening and started at the beginning, and that is rare for me!

What does Simon Prebble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Simon Prebble was able to emulate the various characters so it was not confusing who was speaking. His voice and accent were enjoyable.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The love of horses and their jobs and care.

"story did not age well, but narration is lovely"
Where does Bolt rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    Somewhere in the middle.

Would you recommend Bolt to your friends? Why or why not?

Probably not. I loved Simon Prebble's narration, he's done a great job, but one has to admit, Francis wrote some other books that were much more interesting, tense and full of action.

    Which scene was your favorite?

People throwing coats under the balcony to save a falling man.

    Any additional comments?

The story itself is slow and full of logical holes and is way too unrealistic even for a "dick francis".Still I am not sorry I bought it - Prebble really did a lovely job. I'll look for other books he narrated.

    "An unexpected enjoyment"

Bought this book from the sale page and quite happy with it. Enjoyed the characters and the horse racing back drop. Nice solid story, looking forward to trying another Dick Francis book. Narrator was also quite good.

"Another Winner for Francis and Audible!"
Would you listen to Bolt again? Why?

I will surely listen to the book again. It is one that I have read several times in hardback version and am sure it will get listened to again!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Dick Francis almost ALWAYS keeps one on the edge of their seat. When I have to put it down, I can't wait to get back into it...

Have you listened to any of Simon Prebble’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    I don't think so.

    Any additional comments?

You really can't go wrong with Dick Francis...and having the book read by an Englishman is truly a great experience!
