It was inescapably chilling, as if the murderer was methodically working his way down a page torn from the phone book. The three victims brutally killed in their own homes had one thing in common: They were all listed as M. Douglas. The fact that Mara Douglas is next on the list has her jumping at shadows, until FBI agent Aidan Shields shows up to make sure she doesn't become the fourth victim.

Hate. Revenge. Justice. That's what I feel when I think of them. My parents. They were meant to love us. Protect us. Instead, they went along with all the punishments and abuse he caused. Arthur Cassian, our village leader. Heartless lunatic who enjoyed inflicting pain. A crazed dictator who killed innocent women for disobeying his rules. And yet, his attorney claims him to be "Not guilty". He should rot in a prison cell. Be tortured the same way he tortured so many, including me. This time, I won't let him get away with it. When Danielle Boatman inherits Marlow House, she dreams of turning it into a seaside bed and breakfast. Since she's never visited the property, Danielle's not sure what awaits her in Oregon. She certainly doesn't expect to find one of the house's previous owners still in residence. After all, the man has been dead for almost 90 years - shouldn't he have moved on by now? Charming Walt Marlow convinces Danielle the only way he can move on is if she solves the mystery of his death.

I forgot it quickly
Any additional comments?
This book left me not remembering anything after about a week. Doesn't that mean something? Critt is a great narrator, however.

Another Great Dr Scarpetta Book
Very much enjoyed this Dr Scarpetta Series choice. One of Cornwell’s best. I never seem to tire of Cormwell’s books in this series.

A little hard I follow on audio
A lot of different characters to keep track of but you figure it out by the end and the story was well with the effort. Downloading next in the series but I think I’ll take notes. (-:

Storyline okay but love series
I really enjoy the series. My favorite part is the relationship between Marino and Scarpetta. This storyline was just okay. Not as riveting as some of the others.
