Publisher's summary

Late one night Beryl Madison turns off her burglar alarm, puts down her gun and opens her door to the man who has stalked and terrorized her for months. Hours later, her brutally mutilated body lies in the city morgue. As Scarpetta begins searching for the microscopic clues to the killer’s identity, one question keeps nagging her: why did Beryl let him in?

Entertaining listen

Great narration with an engaging story. Perfect for listening to while working. I love that there are so many in the series! I look forward to the next one!

I enjoyed the trip to Miami (vicariously.)

I dislike bloodshed, but I did enjoy the fight at the end where Kay fought the antagonist!

Good character development

The story weaves in the previous book nicely bringing the character to life and creating a relationship with the reader that invests you in the storyline and compells you to keep reading. Solid mysteries to keep you interested and multiple layers.

Hooked on Scarpetta

With regards to the story - one question has been bugging me... how does the answering machine work if the electricity is out? I mean, I know a corded telephone will work with no electricity, but how can you listen to the voice on the answering machine by candlelight and then say the lights are still out?

Freaky killers

I like this audio version much better then the previous version that I rented from the library. Kay Scarpetta is suppose to be the main voice that you here, so at least this one has an American accent and not a British one.

Great mystery but 1.5 listening speed is a must!

There are numerous reviews about the terrible narration, which is completely mended by increasing the listening speed to 1.5. This is an excellent mystery and worth a listen, as long as you find your audio sweet spot.

Predictable, but engaging

C. J. Critt does a great job with the characters. The supporting characters were bland, but the mystery was intriguing.

Not my favorite

This one was really slow and the narration could have been better. Definitely not a favorite. I preferred book one
