Publisher's summary

It starts off simply enough. (Doesn't it always?) Jack has been on hiatus since the tragic events in Harbingers. With his beloved Gia's encouragement he dips his toe back into the fix-it pool.

Christy Pickering's 18-year-old daughter is dating Jerry Bethlehem, a man twice her age. Christy sensed something shady and sinister about him, so she hired a private investigator to look into his past. But the PI isn't returning her calls. Will Jack find out why?

Jack learns there's a very good reason for the unreturned calls: The PI is dead, victim of a bizarre water-torture murder.

As Jack delves into Jerry Bethlehem's past, he finds connections between Bethlehem and the Creighton Institute. The Institute, a government-funded facility, is researching a newly discovered and frightening variation on human DNA. Jack learns that Bethlehem is not the man he pretends to be.

Who - and what - Jerry Bethlehem really is will have a devastating effect on Jack's life and future.

And as the bodies pile up, Jack finds another piece of the puzzle about his own identity and why he's been drafted into a cosmic shadow war.

Excellent book, melodramatic voice acting

I have been a huge fan of F. Paul Wilson in general and Repairman Jack specifically for a long time. So you can imagine my dismay at downloading this book and having to struggle to hear the whispers and wince at the yelling as the voice actor (Dick Hill) attempted to sacrifice comprehension for the sake of over-acting. Having said that, my hearing isn't the greatest, having been to war and all. But my critique is still valid. Buyer beware, unless you listen to these audiobooks in a very quiet place.

Something Wicked This Way Comes

A little peak into Jack's rage brings new meaning to a bloodline. Dragged by a Semi.

Narrator Makes it almost unlistenable.

A fan of the series, but for whatever reason Christopher Price was not contracted for the performance. Dick Hill doesn't do any favors to the series. His pregnant pauses, horrible accents and strange cadence made this book a struggle to finish.

Good story, but kept thinking of Jack Reacher

The change in voice artist messed with my mind. I am a fan of the Jack Reacher series, so having this artist in a Repairman Jack story just is off.

new narrator

I did not like the narrator's voice. it made Jack sound like a New Yorker gangster.

The book was good but the narrator wasn’t

After listening to Christopher Price Jack just doesn’t sound right with Dick Hill. Good book.

Change in narrator takes a little getting used to

The story was excellent as always. I found the new narrator took little getting use to but that's only because I'm listening back to back

Like the old saying......

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! This was a very, very, very tough listening experience. This narrator does not do justice to the Repairman Jack series. The storyline is solid, but the terrible narrator takes away from the enjoyment of the book!

Not my favorite

I know there are many people who like Dick Hill. I am not one of them. The way he does the voices makes every person sound like they are stupid. Even the hero of the story. I can't tell one from another. I find my mind wandering in thought about that and miss the story. I gave it 3 stars, but seriously, I don't even recall what it was about.
