Publisher's Summary

It starts off simply enough. (Doesn't it always?) Jack has been on hiatus since the tragic events in Harbingers. With his beloved Gia's encouragement he dips his toe back into the fix-it pool.

Christy Pickering's 18-year-old daughter is dating Jerry Bethlehem, a man twice her age. Christy sensed something shady and sinister about him, so she hired a private investigator to look into his past. But the PI isn't returning her calls. Will Jack find out why?

Jack learns there's a very good reason for the unreturned calls: The PI is dead, victim of a bizarre water-torture murder.

As Jack delves into Jerry Bethlehem's past, he finds connections between Bethlehem and the Creighton Institute. The Institute, a government-funded facility, is researching a newly discovered and frightening variation on human DNA. Jack learns that Bethlehem is not the man he pretends to be.

Who - and what - Jerry Bethlehem really is will have a devastating effect on Jack's life and future.

And as the bodies pile up, Jack finds another piece of the puzzle about his own identity and why he's been drafted into a cosmic shadow war.

"Don't start with this late entry in the series!"

I'm a big, big fan of the Repairman Jack series and have waited for years for the books to be available on Audio. Why the publishers have to start with the two latest entries in the the series is anyone's guess, and too, too bad. The first five or six Repairman Jack books are much less serialized and the story can be picked up at any time, but the final entries really require some dedication and to be read in order.

I've never much cared for Dick Hill as a narrator although his voice is bland enough not to be a major issue. In this case his thick Rust Belt accent is totally inappropriate for Jersey-born Jack and even worse for Iowa-bred Gia, but the production values are fair and the book moves along fine. Still, overall disappointing to true diehard RJ fans.

I truly hope that this confusing offering doesn't turn off potential RJ readers, who should really go back to "The Tomb" and get the story from the beginning.

    "Help,Jack!"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would find Jack and see if he could fix this by having Dick Hill removed and Christopher Price read in his place. Hill has no sense of the character whatsoever.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Bloodline?

When I had to stop listening and just read the book was my most memorable moment.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator detracted from the book by opening his mouth and reading.

Was Bloodline worth the listening time?

Any other Jack book is great excepting the two Dick Hill read.

    Any additional comments?

Please allow a reading of Bloodline and By The Sword by Christopher Price.
The Dick Hill reading is a farce.

    "Worst so far."
What was most disappointing about F. Paul Wilson’s story?

This book should have taken 30 minutes. Love the series but this book does nothing for it, hard to suffer through to the end. Didn't do anything to expand any of the characters or move the series story along.

    Any additional comments?

Dick HIll, do me a favor and SPEAK UP!!!

"Another great book accept for the narrator."

I love this series! The story is masterfully written as always. But why in the blue blazes would you change narrators in the middle of the series and especially to this narrator? He makes Repairman Jack sound like a cheap New York joke.

    "Bad Narrator"
Would you consider the audio edition of Bloodline to be better than the print version?

I didn't read the print version

What other book might you compare Bloodline to and why?

All of the other Repairman Jack books have been great to listen to, however this one has a lousy narrator. Instead of the manly voice for Jack, here we have someone who sounds like a 'wiseguy' from an early Dick Tracey type of 1940's movie. The narrator also fouls up Abe's accent. Instead of sounding like New York Yiddish, he sounds like a transylvanian vampire.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Dick Hill?

    Christopher Price

    Any additional comments?

The story is great, but the narrator ruins it.

    "Where is Christopher Price?"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

I enjoyed the story immensely, but why did they get rid of Christopher Price as the narrator? It ruined the audiobook by switching. Dick Hill would have been perfect if this book from the perspective of Jimmy Donuts, but he is no Repairman Jack. Not bashing on Mr. Hill's skill as a narrator. I've heard other books and he was great doing them, but his voice is completely wrong for the character. To replace Price who has been doing this series for so long was just a bad idea.

    "Bad narration"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I bought this book against my better judgement. No.

What other book might you compare Bloodline to and why?

By the Sword. In as much as it has the same narrator, it is torturous to listen to.

What didn’t you like about Dick Hill’s performance?

He has never been a good narrator. Occasionally, a few of his main male characters start out with reasonable voices. However, all of his male characters wind up sounding like Dustin Hoffman in Midnight Cowboy, though often with a voice up one octave. The females always sound like bimbos with high squeaky voices. His volume is all over the place as he overly dramatizes. His angry voice goes from screaming to a swallowed whisper. He is a very bad actor. I don't know what the judges were listening to when they gave him recording awards. I avoid any book that he does. There are many series books I have skipped for just that reason.

    Any additional comments?

Bring back Alexander Cendese, or any of the previous narrators, It was all so much more enjoyable before- I liked the characters then.

    "New narrator has derailed me"
Would you listen to Bloodline again? Why?

I have to. I have listened to ten books in this series with a different narrator. Dick Hill is good; however, he is not the narrator that I am used to. Consequently, I missed a lot of the story just trying to get used to his style.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Jack of course.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I edit this after I have listened to it a few more times.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Check back after I have listened to this a few more times.

    "Good book iffy reader"
Where does Bloodline rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I like the Repairman Jack books, this one is good but Dick Hill has done better.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

    Yeah a page turner.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Dick Hill?

James Marsters would have been good if they could get him.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes but I couldn't.

    Any additional comments?

As I said good book, but the reader has done better in other books. I didn't like the voice he used for Jack.
