"Bonnie and Clyde meets Kill Bill." - Jenna, Goodreads
His name is Beat, and I should hate him.
Bound, blindfolded and bruised, I'm tied in his basement, waiting for the men who stripped me from clothes and humanity to collect his debt to them. Me.
His name is Nate and I should hate him, but I don't.
I'm not supposed to know his real name, even worse, I'm not supposed to care. He is nothing to me but means to an end. The plan is simple: break free, collect the pieces of my broken soul, kill the bastards and run away.
His name is Nathaniel Thomas Vela, and I've never seen his face, though I hear that it's beautiful.
Behind the rugged and handsome exterior, there's a quiet murderer, a killer who thinks guns are for pussies and ends people with his bare hands.
His name doesn't matter, neither does his face, but what does matter is my heart. And right now, sadly, it's his.
Blood to Dust is a standalone, full-length novel. It contains graphic violence and adult situations some may find offensive.

I am an avid reader, not a professional book reviewer. I gladly offer my opinion of the books I read/listen to.
I generously gave this story 2 stars overall because I had to give credit to the author for writing one of the darkest, antithesis of a feel good love story.. Eventually there is a conclusion that should have been considered a HEA, however the whole storyline and brutality that took place throughout the book left me kind of shell shocked. Add a terrible, possibly the worst narration performance I have ever heard and the story barely merits 2 stars. I would NOT recommend this book for a sale let alone a most cherished credit!
Audio Reviewer under Audio Flow. I enjoy delving into the imagination of writers and hearing it read aloud by seasoned and new audio actors.
L.Shen is such a powerful writer. I never know what to expect. That's the beauty of her work. She is able to create unlikely characters that your heart and mind griws to love. In this story, it is hard to tell at first who you actually like, who to trust and who will steal your heart.
Because I don't want to give away the plot, I will just say that there is Prescott who wants to survive and she will do anything to make that happen...including giving of herself. What makes this even better is the relationship that develops from the one she attempted to give herself too. Out of everything in her life she finds that even broken people can find their other half...
What a truly nontraditional love story. Full of action, passion, hate, ultimate sacrifice and healing. I loved this story because Shen's heroines always are written so well. At times when you think they are at their weakest, they show greater strength with or without a man.
Michael Pauley is fantastic. He is not just a narrator, he is a true voice actor. Believable with his character deliverance and easily brings the listener deeper into the story! Pure perfection.
What a ride. Gripping, while you sit on the edge of your seat suspense. Finding love where you least expect it. Michael Pauley is phenomenal, adding another dimension to this already fast paced, twist and turn, gut wrenching story. A must listen. Be prepared not to let go until the end, and even then you might not want to...
Both main characters were so broken and yet they found a common bond and wound up being able to develop a relationship despite their awful pasts. Character and plot development were great!
Yes! You never knew what direction this book was going to take. And the villains were so evil!
I have listened to this narrator before and this narration was excellent as was the previous book that I listened to. I am looking forward to listening to more books read by Michael Pauley!
No. This is the type of book that needs time to assimilate the content. It was also very intense. I loved it!
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.
I love reading in all forms...but audiobook gives me that little extra to highlight that experience.
You mean beside exactly EVERYTHING!!!
Through this whole time I was positive that Nate would be my absolute favorite one but as the story went on and I got to learn more about Prescott and how everything she went through never broke her but only made her stronger than even she herself realized.
Both of them have so many great and truthful qualities that made me fall in love with them.
This man had me on my knees already as Troy from the book Sparrow by L.J. Shen
and I was sold.
In this book he just confirmed my every thought I had of him since before and he brought this story and its characters so much more alive than I would have experienced them with just reading.
The way he transforms his voice and the amount of emotions and feelings that come through in his performance is amazing.
A job very well executed!
Wow...there were so many I lost count.
BUT I knew this one spectacular moment would be my favorite and be so special to me.
That was when Nate and Prescott professed their love for each other.
The way they both opened up and allowed themselves to become vulnerable for the sake of the other person but dammed be everything if they wouldn't risk their hearts and souls each and every time for one another.
This story is like none other I have ever read.
Nope nothing comes even close to it and I am glad for it.
This author has found her niche and I seems to be working out perfectly for her.
At some scenes I was so stunned and had to ask myself
" Wait did I just heard that? Let's go back and make sure I heard that correctly."
This is some heavy duty stuff and I am still wondering how she managed to write it and where did all these ideas come from.
This story is full of so many interesting but hard to melt situations.
So if you're looking for a story where prince charming will break all obstacles to get to his princess and save her and live happily ever after this is not it....but on the other hand somehow it is but in a different way.
I am happy to have had the chance to come across L.J. Shen and her work and love how her stories get to me on a different level and make me really focus and invest my all into the story and that results in me developing cravings for more.
Can't wait to see what else she can bring to the table!!
A high recommendation from me with slight caution sign over it!!!
I have to admit I wasn't crazy about this narrator in Sparrow when he did the female voice with an accent, so I was iffy on listening to this one. Well I am very glad I did. He did great as the female and male as there are no accents in this book. I still think it should have dual narration but even without this is a 5*. I enjoyed every aspect of this book and did not want to stop listening!!!
LJ Shen's BLOOD TO DUST is an EXPLOSIVELY charged cat and mouse chase that left me at the edge of my seat!!! This story was jam packed with nail biting scenes, witty one liners, quirky dark humour, and scorching chemistry! One moment, I was riddled with laughter at Nate's enunciation of C-O-C-K-B-U-R-N, and the next, I was nervously hoping that Prescott would get herself out of another dangerous situation. This story of revenge, betrayal, trust and love had me addicted from its onset right till the very end. There was not one dull moment in this book. Ms. Shen's narrative is fast paced and the plot is chock full of action and unpredictable twists.
The BLOOD TO DUST audio was a delight to listen to. Michael Pauley's narratIon was absolutely STUNNING - this guy is truly a very talented actor as shown thru his ability to take on various accents; his ability to make the listener HEAR and FEEL the action sequences as it unfolds; and his innate ability to take on each character's persona with conviction. He breathed so much life into these characters.
DO NOT miss this exhilarating thrill ride!!! 5+ baby cake stars!!
I love storytelling.
Blood to Dust is an adrenaline pumping, one hundred mile an hour, high speed chase.
Suppressed by the system, lies and betrayal, Nate and Prescott have one thing in common. They both have had to claw their way out of despair, relying on their own self-preservation. Thrust together, they justifiably live by their own rules, while seeking answers by those who have deceived them.
Each chapter is smart, well-crafted and intense as it takes you deeper into the story. Blood to Dust is the perfect combination of raw and honest moments. The characters come to terms with their reality and define their future. Driven with revenge, Nate and Prescott seek to calm their storm and find their peace.
LJ Shen’s writing is stellar as she takes you through a range of emotions. She stands out in a league of her own with her original stamp of unapologetic chaos.
Michael Pauley delivered a powerful performance. His narration was the perfect complement to this book. From the first spoken work he became Nate. He lures you in and holds you captive.
"We’re polar opposites. He’s peace looking for color, and I’m a storm looking for serenity. And somewhere between chaos and his peace, we found each other. Even crazier—we want to save one another."
