Publisher's Summary

She held her breath, her arms shaking, and it felt as though her heart was going to explode out of her chest. Go away, she thought. You're done. You've killed me - now leave.

Tainted water. Dead bodies. Blood silence.

Two people are coldly executed behind a bar in Washington DC. A high-powered lawyer and his beautiful client are brutally slaughtered in a lake house in a suburb west of Minneapolis. Two cases separated by 1,000 miles and connected by one man - Mac McRyan. In a tale of money and blood that hits a little too close to home, Mac is forced to confront his tumultuous past. Blood Silence is a web of unsettling twists, startling turns, and unforeseen redemption with each chapter adding a layer of intrigue that will pull you in further.

I love espionage, legal, and detective thrillers but listen to most genres. Very frequent reviews. No plot spoilers! Please excuse my typos!

"The outstanding McRyan detective series continues"

I have previously written very positive reviews of all prior books in the McRyan detective series. In Blood Silence Mac McRyan is encouraged by his fiance who is on the US president's staff to go back home to Minnesota to help clear Mac's ex-wife of the brutal double murder of her cheating husband and her husband's lover.

This is a complex novel that includes almost a dozen murders spread around Minnesota, North Dakota and Texas. McRyan's life is in near constant danger as he uses his detective skills to work toward a conclusion of the case(s). Johnny Peppers does his usual fine job of narration.

I recommend this book and the entire series to those who like detective mysteries.

"Another Great Book by Stelljes, Peppers"

I have been anticipating this book and I was not disappointed. It was a very good story showing the complexity of human lives and our choices. You learn more about McRyan and his past. The story moves away from D.C., but doesn't stay in Minnesota. The story has a bit of an environmental storyline to create more mystery.

It was a well-written story with many twists and turns. The narration by Johnny Peppers is spot on and gives voice to the characters.

    "Blood Silence: McRyan Mystery Series"

“This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.”

This was a first listen of this author. I see this was book five in the series. The book stood alone with Mac investigating the murder of his ex-wife's husband. The story weaves through several states and many characters. There were many unexpected twists and a surprise ending. Now I go back and listen to earlier books.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed.

    "Best McRyan book so far..."
    Any additional comments?

Excellent mystery by Roger Stelljes. I've enjoyed the other books in the "Mac" McRyan series but I think this one is by far his best. The book begins with McRyan's ex-wife's husband having an affair and her planning a divorce. He is then found murdered and she is logically the top suspect. McRyan reluctantly gets involved with the urging of his fiancé. Meanwhile other people are being killed throughout the country, these seem unconnected and isolated in their different regions of the states until Mac begins putting the pieces together. Then the hunt begins - Mac for them and them (the bad guys) for him.
With out spoiling anything, the conclusion comes from way out in left field. You can't and won't see it coming and you can not guess it early on in the book BUT it fits perfectly and absolutely believable. By the end everything is wrapped up with promise for another book forming.

Johnny Peppers narrates this one as well as all the others in this series. His performance was excellent as always.

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

    "Really Good Story"
    Any additional comments?

Another great entertaining, enjoyable and interesting addition to the McRyan mystery series.

Once again McRyan and his buddies are pulled into another investigation.

Great plot, keeps you guessing. Great cast of characters. Plenty of twists and turns while trying to solve the mystery of who is behind the recent murders of his ex-wife's husband and his mistress. Plenty of suspense and action that keep you glued to the story until the end.

Johnny Peppers did a great job as usual with the narration. Nice even pace, smooth flowing narration. He is the voice for McRyan.

"Developed characters on more than one level"

Having read all of the McRyan books, I found this one to have the best character development on multiple levels. The story developed on murder and greed centered in the North Dakota oil fields was in itself a story within a story. Greed and effect on people along with all the EPA issues. The characters also developed on an emotional level that we would hope for in a multiple book series. Johnny Pepper is outstanding.

Audiobooks keep me in check while handling traffic every day. I routinely have three different "reads" going at the same time.

"Enjoyed the narration and the story line."
Who was your favorite character and why?

Mack has to be the favorite since he is the main character of the storyline.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The highway shootout has to be my favorite. I could imagine the intensity and realistic approach taken by the author.

    Any additional comments?

Blood Silence is a good listen. The author keeps you guessing and paints a picture that is easily visualized. Johnny Peppers does a good job keeping the conversations easy to follow and characterizations make it easy to identify each person speaking.

Fast-paced thriller, interesting, nuanced mystery with several surprise reveals. The narration was expertly handled, with excellent differentiation between character voices and superb dramatic timing.

    Story
"Mac McRyan becomes even more unbelievable..."
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

While we have read all of books in the series to date, we found our interest in the characters actually dwindling with each subsequent book. Mac McRyan is too unbelievable, he's rich, ruggedly handsome, well known coast-to-coast "just google me", men want to be him, women flock to him. Even powerful women become giggling school girls and apparently lose brain cells being too close to his magnetism. He has the ear of the President of the United States. He is a retired (suddenly too rich to care) detective with a legal education, having passed the Bar Exam. The man doesn't quit. While the stories are entertaining and have some good elements, intrigue, mystery, etc. We began to feel as though we were getting a peek into the personal "holodeck fantasy" of the author. Even the best characters need a few flaws to create interest, and believability.

Would you recommend Blood Silence to your friends? Why or why not?

We really miss the characters and more intimate feel of the earlier books in the series. Dick, Dot, Rock, Uncle Seamus, etc., added depth and interest which was lacking in the latter books. "Rich people problems" are very boring. The characters stopped developing, other than Mac evolving into the even more perfect man with each subsequent book.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Johnny Peppers does a great job with male voices, but every single woman sounds the same and the inflection does not match the dialogue in those characters.

Could you see Blood Silence being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    No

    Any additional comments?

I normally do not post negative reviews. I do feel this series started out promising, My sister also read/listened to all of the books. We spoke about the series and both felt the same once finished.
