"Excellent Book in an Excellent Series"

I can't handle all of the ups and downs. My family believes I should be on medication. At one moment I am cheering, then upset, then angry, then cheering, then just sitting quietly. Mr. Farnsworth, you should more consideration for your readers (listeners) emotional state of well-being!
This book, and series as a whole, does a great job of weaving fact, fiction, the occult, and things that go "bump!" in the night into a fast paced adventure that leaves you wanting more.
I found myself identifying with the characters and quickly accepting the hidden-world that Christopher Farnsworth was pieced together. Just an all around fun ride, that I highly recommend.
Bronson Pinchot does another amazing job with narration. His choice in character voice and tone embodies the characters well and he is just an absolute pleasure to listen to. When you are done with the series (you ARE going to give this a try, right?) I recommend looking at some of the other books narrated by Pinchot, he really is very good.
I highly recommend this book and series. Passing on it would be a serious mistake, one that Nathaniel Cade just might show up to rectify in the still of the night.

    "Great Performance"
Have you listened to any of Bronson Pinchot’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to Bronson's other performances, but I would have to say I was pleasantly surprised how well he did. He did a great job.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It's a very entertaining book and Bronson Pinchot does a great job narrating. Decent character development and it has a good flow to it.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It did, it had a lot of action without being too "detaily"

I was drawn to this because Bronson Pinchot is the narrator. This book provides plenty of opportunity for Pinchot to display his characterization skills. For me, a Pinchot devotee, this is enough. I was pleased to discover that this is more like a political thriller than it is a horror novel—think Jack Reacher, Jack Ryan, Mitch Rapp. Plenty of action and life-saving heroics in defense of America. Did I mention sarcasm? There is sarcasm in plenty. This is a fun book. The plot is well constructed with a discernable beginning, middle development, and satisfying ending. Oh yea, did I mention that Bronson Pinchot is excellent? Well he is great. If you have come to the conclusion, as I have, that a great narrator can make almost any book a pleasant listening experience. In this case the book is interesting in its own right—adding Pinchot makes this a movie playing in your head.

From tedious dialog to sloppy transitions this is one of the worst books I've listened to in a long time. How some people become published authors is beyond my understanding. Well done Christopher Farnsworth. You've beat the system and made money doing it.

Audio books make a long run feel way too short and can turn twenty minutes of yard work into an all day project.

If you could sum up Blood Oath in three words, what would they be?

    Creative Engaging and Familiar

What other book might you compare Blood Oath to and why?

I would compare it to the Monster Hunters International series by Larry Correia because it has a supernatural theme, a cool hero team (vampire and career politician) and deals with the end of the world. What more could you ask for?

What does Bronson Pinchot bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His ability to capture charters with an audible voice. I have read several books that I have listened to Mr. Pinchot narrate and I hear his voice for the characters as I read them. He is fantastic.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Only a smile of joy that I had a viable alternative to the Monster Hunters International series.

    Any additional comments?

I can't wait to listen to the next installment. Somewhat predicable but fun just the same.

    "Slow start, but overall entertaining"

As I stated in the headline, this book starts out slow, but gains a little bit of momentum in the middle and finishes ok. Overall, I believe the story is mildly entertaining, but it is a story that has been done before and lacks originality. The main protagonist of the story is a vampire by the name of Nathaniel Cade, who is forced to work for the government because of a "blood oath" he made years ago with the U.S. president in office at the time. And to be honest, the vampire character in this story is both flat and uninteresting. The author fails to make a connection between the main character and the reader, and I believe this is the downfall of this novel. As a matter of fact, the only interesting person in this story in my opinion, is the "Dr. Frankenstein" character that is introduced about midway through the story. This is the main reason why I think the story picks up for me a little in the middle is because of this character. Without him, I think the story would just collapse in on itself.

If stories containing monsters, supernatural beings, and government intrigue interest you, then I would recommend you skip this book and take a look at Larry Correia's Monster Hunter series of books. Mr. Correia is a much better writer and story teller than Farnsworth, and the Monster Hunter books are much more entertaining.

Bronson Pinchot narrates this story, and as always, does a great job. Mr. Pinchot's performance is the only reason that the overall rating for this book gets bumped to 3 stars.

If you could sum up Blood Oath in three words, what would they be?

    great character storytelling

What did you like best about this story?

    The characters and their relationships

What about Bronson Pinchot’s performance did you like?

Pitch perfect, captures the characters and keeps the narrative moving at break neck speed

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Very hard to turn off, turned from late night into early morning listening

    Any additional comments?

Would recommend this book to anyone!!!
