Publisher's summary

After Sam Cleave's perilous experience on the North Sea oil rig, Deep Sea One, he endevours to take life a little slower and keep to his mundane journalism job at the local newspaper. However, an unforeseen turn of events urges Sam to accept a freelance writing job offered by none other than Jefferson Daniels, the world renowned explorer with whom he shared their first terrifying expedition to Antarctica in search of Ice Station Wolfenstein a year or two before.

Soon Sam discovers that Dave Purdue and Nina Gould are also involved in this exclusive enterprise and, in the Arizona desert they are all about to discover just how deep FireStorm intends to take their initiates. When all connections to the outside world are severed and personal belongings become redundant, Sam and Nina begin to doubt the good intentions of FireStorm and its new anti-privacy software soon to be distributed worldwide. Before long their reluctance to conform becomes a gesture of threat and they soon find themselves in a desperate struggle for freedom where anyone, anywhere could be in league with FireStorm.

Will this be the Death of Privacy or will the worldwide domination of personal information be successfully thwarted?

Unable to listen to for more that 10 minutes

Would you ever listen to anything by Preston Child again?

The first two books of the series that I read were ok. I was also hooked in thinking the book was written by Preston AND Childs, not one person. I had purchased this book before I listened to the others, but I would have if I had listened to them before.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kevin Clay?

After about 5 minutes I was unable to listen to the narration any more. He sounded like he was jumping out of his skin with excitement when nothing exciting was happening yet. All of his sentences were run together. It was impossible to know where the narration ended and the character lines were being read.

Black Sun Rising

This is third book I have listed to that deals with Steve Cleve the reporter, Nina the historian, and Dave the money man. But this time they get themselves mixed up in occult in the South West of USA. Ancient Native American practices with modern technology, what could go wrong? Another adventure by P.W. Child

This book is NOT by Douglas Preston& Lincoln Child

Don't be tricked into this stupid series thinking it is by Preston & Child because it is not, and if you've wasted time and money on it into book 3, you'll find it utterly ludicrous to believe the turn of events in book 2 and who the heroine is now bedding.

Narrator horrible!

While the old narrator was an idiot, this guy is unbearable. It’s like listening to a bad radio commercial announcer for 7 hours. I’m returning the book and done with the series due to the narrator

Worst narrator ever!!!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A different narrator.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Black Sun Rising?

Couldn't last 5 minutes.

How could the performance have been better?

Use the first narrator. The new guy was horrible.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger due to the narrator.

Any additional comments?

The first two books were great. I was hooked and like the story. Less than 5 minutes into the new book I wanted to bang my head against the wall. The narrator was absolutely the worst I'd ever heard. He sounded like he was trying to race through the book. I couldn't stand listening to it a second more.

Robot reader

I can't say too much about the story of this book as the reading was so horrible that I couldn't get more than 15 minutes in to it. If it's like any other books in series it's worth a strong 3 stars. Very few mistakes and good plot.
The reading however was way too fast with horrible voice acting and dead monotone through the narration; couple that with mispronouncing some pretty common words and you quickly decide you'd rather read it yourself.

Not up to Child's par

What would have made Black Sun Rising better?

Get into the action faster than 4 hours. Slow reader's cadence.

What aspect of Kevin Clay’s performance would you have changed?

Cadence was like a race. Narration of character development at the same pace expected during for action passages.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Brought up some familiar characters from other books but seemed like new characters either due to narration style or writing style.

Any additional comments?

Like Preston Child but disappointed in this one. Just not up to par.
