In this second installment in the acclaimed Back series, Artemus Black, Hollywood PI to the stars, dives into the rap music scene to stop a killer - with often disastrous and humorous results. Fans of hard-boiled detective fiction from Elmore Leonard, Michael Connelly and Lawrence Block will enjoy Black's trials and tribulations, all delivered with a tongue-in-cheek cynicism that's uniquely Russell Blake.

I love espionage, legal, and detective thrillers but listen to most genres. Very frequent reviews. No plot spoilers! Please excuse my typos!
Author Russell Blake is channeling Mickey Spillane's dialog in this series. This fun, and funny, series is more about the characters and dialog than the stories. Oh, the stories are are fine, but they are secondary. RC Bray, one of the very best, narrates.
This was just as good as the first one, if not better. Everyone's back and the story never loses a beat. Narration is of course fantastic and well delivered. I was afraid the first book was just going to be recycled here, but that's not at all the case.
Baby Boomer in Raleigh NC. Faves include James Lee Burke, CJ Box, Baldacci, Flynn, Child, DeMille, Crais, Connolly, Thor, Coes, L'amour. Average two books/week.
The snappy repartee continues like a fire hose. The plots are secondary to Black's verbal sparring with everyone in his world. .... Artemus Black IS "Mike Hammer of The New Millenium".
Yes. It's even better on audiobook.
Yes. I had no idea who the murderer was.
Yes. I listened to the first book, Black. This was equally as good as that one.
Made me laugh.
I've read all the books in the Black series. I usually don't listen to books I've bought and read but made an exception because the narrator is that good.
