Book One in the Black Flagged Series.
A graduate of the Department of Defense's experimental Black Flag program, Daniel Petrovich carries a secret he'd rather keep buried. A secret his government has hidden in the deepest vaults of the Pentagon. Someone is trying to raise Black Flag from the dead, and drag Petrovich back into the poisonous life he abandoned. Someone who knows his darkest secrets.
In exchange for the promise of a clean slate, and a chance to keep the life he has built with the woman he loves, he agrees to carry out one more mission. Now Daniel has an even bigger problem. The assassination of Mohammed Ghani, a wealthy Muslim importer, wasn't the uncomplicated mission he had been promised. Seven other prominent Muslim businessmen are killed on the same night along the East Coast, suddenly extinguishing Task Force HYDRA, the most significant counter-terrorism investigation in recent FBI history. Daniel's life is about to disintegrate, as he becomes the focus of a relentless FBI manhunt, and the target of a vengeful CIA agent. To survive, he'll be forced to release a dark side he fought for years to keep suppressed. A dark side with no boundaries, and few loyalties.

The first half of the book is putting together the characters and what's going on but there is action. The second half really takes off with everything you'd ever want with an action thriller. Definitely recommend.
Post apocalyptic listener with some thrillers mixed in. Follow me on twitter at @drewsant
Tough and gritty covert thriller that pulls the main character back into the super secret world and you along with him! The action comes fast and furious with this book as the story unfolds and will keep you pulled in. The main character is a bit unlikable in the fact that he kills good and bad without remorse, but he has enough redeeming qualities so that he’s doesn’t totally put you off. The only complaint that I have with the book is that it doesn’t tell the whole story. You have to get into the other books to see how things really turn out, but since I liked this one so much it’s not really that much of a problem, I just need them to be available in Audiobook!!!
Also Joseph Morton is a great narrator. Haven't disliked one of his performances yet!
Haven't read the print version.
Unlike some reviewers, I didn't think the pace was slow at all. There are a LOT of characters and it can be difficult to keep them all straight. To me this seemed realistic. Considering the plot line, there would be a lot of entities and people involved. I loved the fact that the main character is not an angel, nor is his team. These people do what needs to be done to come out on top. It gets messy and there's some unbecoming collateral damage.
I loved the story and the characters. I liked the main character and wanted him to win because he just got dragged into the whole mess but I wouldn't have any of these guys over for a BBQ. This is not a neat and tidy "the good guys are the good guys and the bad guys are the bad guys" kind of story line.
I really liked the writing style and the narration was first rate.
I'm buying the 2nd in the series right now.
not in a position to tell- haven't read the book
No, although I did delay whatever else was going on several times to sit in my car and finish a plot segment.
I listen to audio books in my car during commutes and not too often anywhere else. This book takes some concentration. Let your attention wander and there will suddenly be a few characters that seemingly came out of nowhere and you'll be hitting replay to figure out who the hell these people are. Many of them will drop off for various reasons and you''ll be back down to your core group toward the end.
The end-of-book plot tie-up, setting up the series to continue, strained credibility a bit considering the sheer mayhem this group was responsible for but alternately there were sufficient plot twists previously, that I didn't see coming, for me to let it go because I want to see where it goes from here.
Looking forward to the next book.
I should have heeded others' reviews, but Audible offered this on sale as a potential start to a new series to listen to. This book has so many undeveloped characters it seems the author threw them in just because he could, or perhaps thought he should. The storyline jumps around all over the place. Terrible, especially when trying to listen as opposed to reading a hard copy. I will be returning.
Was unable to engage with the characters and it stopped unexpectantly
If I had listened to this before Jakarta Pandemic it would have been slightly better. Hard to believe they come from the same author.
Disappointment...hoped it would improve as I delved deeper into the book.
Steven needs to read some other authors who do Black Flagged type stories to see all the areas he falls short compared to them.
No! I felt the pace of this book was too slow and could not get through the book.
Difficult to listen to. No vocal variety. Boring voice, Too fast
Stopped half way through the book.
I just didn't like that the book didn't seem to go anywhere, it just dragged on and on.
There are a million characters and it was too hard to keep track of them all. Lost interest and didn't even listen to the second file.
There are no listener reviews for this title yet.
