Black Cherry Blues

I loved everything about this book including an outstanding narration. James Lee Burke is a sage.

Mark Hammer is amazing

Would you listen to Black Cherry Blues again? Why?

Have listened to almost all Will Patton-narrated JLB books on Audible. Had stayed away from other narrators because WP is so, so, so good. But I gambled on this, and Mark Hammer is stellar. How he captures nuances of dialect and accents is nothing short of spectacular. I'm only about 1/2 way through, which is why I only give 4 stars for story and "overall," but if you're a fan of JLB and are have been attached to Will Patton due to his great narration, give this a listen. You will not be disappointed. That said, Will Patton loses nothing here; it's an embarrassment of riches in the narration world.

Of course, we love Robicheaux, which is what keeps me coming back.

Great read!

Great suspense! It kept me guessing until the end! I'm getting the next book in this series. I love the landscape descriptions, I feel like I'm there with them.

Black Cherry Blues

A gritty but beautifully written book. Burke is a Southern prose poet. The best cop/ex-cop stories we have.

I really prefer the original voice of Dave.

I really like the original voice of day. It is still a great story, I guess it is just my preference.

Cletes voice.

I have read all of the Robichaux novels and started listening to the audio versions about a year ago starting midway through the series. One of the things I liked a lot was that the voices used in the readings were very close to the voices that I would hear in my own head on my first readings of the novels my problem with this particular book is that The Voice used forClete Purcell in the first novel neon rain sounds the same as the one that I had gotten used to in the later books. Unfortunately in this book black cherry blues the voice is totally different and sounds nothing like a guy that would’ve grown up in the Irish channel of New Orleans it sounds much more Southern redneck. This makes it really hard for me to hold interest. However overall I love the story and all of these books

Violence and death

The story seems limited and the violence excessive. Hard for me to care about any of the characters. I would not recommend this book.

Not much mystery or excitement.

Well read and performed, but not that exciting. After listening to Greg Iles Penn Cage it was a let down. Probably will not listen to the rest of the series.

good story. unworthy narration

Narrator was disappointing. Not much difference between voices and he thinks whispering is the best way to vocalize a woman. ridiculous.

Dandy JLB BUT

... Mark Hammer's narration doesn't hold a candle to that of Will Patton. Patton captures the lyrical quality of Burke's prose -- truly takes me to Louisiana (or, in this case, Montana).
