Publisher's summary

Birdman showcases Hayder at her spine-tingling best as beloved series character Jack Caffery tracks down a terrifying serial killer. In his first case as lead investigator with London's crack murder squad, Detective Jack Caffery is called on to investigate the murder of a young woman whose body has been discovered near the Millennium Dome in Greenwich, southeast London. Brutalized, and mutilated beyond recognition, the victim is soon joined by four others discovered in the same area - all female and all ritualistically murdered. And when the postmortem examination reveals a gruesome signature connecting the victims, Caffery realizes exactly what he's dealing with - a dangerous serial killer.

Chilling!

Read this in print when it came out years ago. Just as good in audio form. Now, if MO would just publish more!

Gory

This story is too realistic and gory for me. The writing is good the reader is too good. I just do not have an appetite for too much reality and cruelty.6

So scary, I kept this book secret....

You will squirm with disgust at the vile acts in this book- but if escapism, police procedure, and psychopaths- plus a talented narration- are your thing, then I urge you to give this book a try.

Good but grisly

Well done, maybe not memorable but entertaining in a you-can't-look-away-car-accident way. kind of reminds me of Val McDermid. Held my attention throughout. Features one of the more disgustingly creepy villains I've read about lately.

Too Much Gore??

This went over the line for me, although I stayed until the end. Am a seasoned British detective fan, but will skip this author in the future.

Riveting!

I didn’t want the story to end. Readers beware…it can be graphic in some sections but they are necessary to tell the story correctly. Enjoy!

A darn good read!

This is the first audio book that I have enjoyed completely. A huge reason in my positive appraisal of this book, is due to the narrator. Super job! Do note that this story is Not for the squeemish! The actions of the killer are detailed and graphic.

An excellent mystery novel. love Damien Goodwin.

I wish Damien had narrated the other novels. he really made the first two amazing. not the same on the others.

My first for this author

Was recommended to this author by friend. Story was ok-nothing terribly unique-just another freaking sicko. The narrators was ok. my biggest issue was the time spacing. In a handheld book , in a chapter where there are breaks to change the scene or people that break is obvious- in an audio book it is the narrator and the director that determine that correct pause. This was the biggest issue with this book. You are listening and all of a sudden you realize you are hearing about a totally different character or scenario but there was no or way too short of a pause, so short its unrecognizable.

It wasn't so bad I wouldn't listen to the next in the series.
