Publisher's summary

Miami criminal lawyer Jack Swyteck's beautiful ex-girlfriend, Jessie Merrill, sold her life insurance benefit for a cash payment when she was diagnosed with a deadly disease. Now, thanks to Jack's courtroom prowess, Jessie can keep the $1.5 million she received. But both Swyteck and those who expected to double their investment when Jessie died, it turns out, were dupes of a gorgeous scam artist who was never sick at all. And when Jessie's corpse is discovered in Jack's bathtub, he's suddenly wanted for murder.

Framed and desperate, he's up against the police and a powerful criminal consortium willing to go to any lengths to retrieve their money. To save his freedom and his career, Jack must exhume the dark secrets of a buried past. Another good Grippando

I am listening to the novels in order and this was another good listen. I just love Jack and Theo.

whew! A real page turner!

I liked the storyline, very suspenseful. The narrator was good, however, I have heard other narrators that I liked Theo's voice better, but had I not heard those I would not be critical of this narration. Enjoy!

Story was good, Performance wasn’t great.

I really enjoyed the story here, albeit a little disappointed that the premise of Swyteck being wrongly accused of murder was repeated from his first book. I found the performance to be very poor. I listened to this immediately following The Pardon, and where The Pardon’s narrator was a little gritty and gave a cool film noir vibe, I found the narrator on this to be kind of nasally and annoying. Almost like a horse racing announcer.

Set up again?

What kind of Book Series keeps the same exact plot structure in the first 2 books? The same lawyer is set up again. Just different people are doing the setup. Interestingly, where’s his father? And when he’s being “set up” again, why didn’t he hire a lawyer like he did the first time? Why did he answer police and Fed questions without a lawyer? He’s literally just been thru a capital murder case. Why doesn’t he talk about how he’s been they this before??? Cause We have been through it 2x and find it ridiculous!!! I was disappointed with the overused plot device in the first book, now I’m absolutely shocked he’d do it again. Lame lazy writing.
