Nominated, Gumshoe Award, 2008

A decade postmilitary, Jack Reacher has an ATM card and the clothes on his back—no phone, no ties, and no address. But now a woman from his old unit has done the impossible. From Chicago, Frances Neagley finds Reacher using a signal only the eight members of their elite team of army investigators would know. She tells him a terrifying story about the brutal death of a man they both served with. Soon Reacher is reuniting with the survivors of his old team, scrambling to raise the living, bury the dead, and connect the dots in a mystery that is growing darker by the day.

In a world of bad luck and trouble, when someone targets Jack Reacher and his team, they'd better be ready for what comes right back at them.

The narrator

I enjoyed the book but the narrator absolutely took me out of it. He sounds like HAL 9000. Ugh

One of my favs

I can listen to this book over and over again. I love it. I’ve always enjoyed the books from Reacher’s past and I love Naghley.

Straight forward Jack Reacher story.

I’m stuck between loving these books and being ready for a plot change. Kinda the same story every time, though the names change.

Convenient new character trait

Story was pretty good. Not as good as some others in the series.

Having listened to all the books (up to this one) in order, it seems Reacher’s seemingly savant-like math skills would’ve been mentioned and used previously.

I think the author had a story idea and decided to grant Reacher a new ability to make it story work.

Excellent!

This book caught my interest in hopes of answering my cravings for some more reacher action especially leading up to the wrap of season 2. After finishing this book I can’t wait another second to see the second season. This story was very compelling and has some great aha moments. Worth every second!

Jack Reacher Reunites With His Army Team

An urgent summons from Reacher’s old sergeant, Frances Neagley, results in Jack reuniting with his Army Special Investigations team, to deal with the death of a former teammate. The reason for the death is opaque for a long stretch of this novel, which occasionally bogs down in highly detailed procedural details, but everything comes together at the end for a very satisfying conclusion. Lots of vividly described action, more so than in the usual Reacher story. Superbly read by Dick Hill, as usual.

Reacher Makes It Right

"You don't mess with the Special Investigators."

Dick Hill holds your attention ...even between characters, his delivery and portrayal are spot-on!

The title is apt

This was actually my second time listening to this book. It has some memorable moments and I am glad I listened to it again as there were parts of it that I could remember but could not remember the title nor the author.
the Killing Floor is by far the best of Lee Child's Reacher stories that I have listened to so far.
Dick Hill can be draggy at times but I still think he does a good job.
