Publisher's summary

It came in a plain brown wrapper, no return address: an audiocassette of a soul-lacerating scream, followed by an enigmatic, haunting message delivered in a childlike voice: "Bad love. Bad love. Don't give me the bad love."

For psychologist-detective Dr. Alex Delaware, the chant, repeated over and over like a twisted nursery rhyme, is the first intimation that he is about to enter a living nightmare. If Alex fails to discover the escalating pattern of violence and to decipher the twisted logic of the stalker's mind games, he will be the next to die.

Critic reviews

"The prolific best-selling author keeps the reader involved through some rather fantastic plot turns." (Library Journal)

Boring

This was unnecessarily graphic in inappropriate places. It lacked excitement and was (except for the dog), a boring, drawn out, uneventful waste of time. The voice of the reader did not add much to the story. This was not a tale, but a passing acknowledgement of something that took place that could have been summed up in 1 sentence. I listened to the end, but the story never redeemed itself in my estimation.

Bad Story

This author was recommended to me. The story had a lot of dialogue and very little action. On top of that, nothing was solved. They weren't even close. The killer is self revealed and was never suspected. I couldn't wait for this long winded story to be over.

Too much

Interesting, but too many characters and subplots for a audiobook. Not a great narration and the characters are hard to tell apart audibly. Overall, the book is a decent way to pass time, but the climax is frustrating as it's not built up to.

Not The Best

I have read or listened to (or both) most if not all of the Alex Delaware series. This one falls a bit flat. The plot was okay, but I found it necessary to go back and listen to sections again because my attention wandered. There is something off about the narration. The speed is a bit fast or just not right. I think it’s the sound engineer’s work more than the narrator that is to blame. Of all the Kellerman books I have read, well, this is one of them.

This is the story of how Alex got his Frenchi.

This Alex D. book has more action than most. Plus it gives you the origin of Spike.

Love Spike

What a change for Alex. Not all the raw sec that he usually has in his stories. And Spike is an added element

A exciting story

I finished this book in three days because it hooked me from the very beginning. Though I understand the complaint about it being hard to keep track of all the characters, never the less I enjoyed the story. The narrator is fine but it is hard to tell who’s talking Milo and Alex sound very similar so the banter between the two is hard to keep track of.

Puppy Love

The dog Alex and Robin rescue provides interest and charm in this Delaware book. It has the signature complex plot that totally captivates!

Just okay.

This is the eight in the series and the weakest one. Kellerman is not great at the denouement in general but here it comes across as an unfounded deus ex machina. The best part of this book were the scenes with the dog. I look forward to better books in the future.
