Meet Jack Irish: criminal lawyer, debt collector, football lover, turf watcher, trainee cabinetmaker, and the best Australian crime character we've seen in years.
When Jack receives a puzzling message from a jailed ex-client, he's too deep in misery over Fitzroy's latest loss to take much notice. Next thing Jack knows, the ex-client's dead and he's been drawn into a life-threatening investigation involving high-level corruption, dark sexual secrets, shonky property deals, and murder.
With hitmen after him, shady ex-policemen at every turn, and the body count rising, Jack needs to find out what's going on - and fast.

Jack Irish is a great character and great to read a book set in Australia
It is like an Australian version of the Prey series by John Sandford.
First time for Chiappi, really enjoyed his performance. Easy to follow characters.
Book built nicely without any silly or over the top twists
Peter Temple is a great author - check out the Broken Shore, one of my all time favourites
Not a writer, a writer wannabe, editor, lit maj, or pretend literary critic. Just an avid reader/listener. My ratings are opinion only.
Weak story but great characters. I will defintely give Jack another shot and can only hope the story will live up to his character.
This book just did not grab my interest as other Temple books have done. the performance was good, but the story seemed a bit disjointed and just not engaging. Go for "The Broken Shore" instead.
it was slow at first. I still wanted to go on and listen. I was glad I did. A "nice" story. I was entertained.
An alright story I suppose and some of the places were significant to me but it just came across as very bogan and the bad language was somewhat gratuitous (getting prudish in my old age). If there is nothing else on offer I might listen to another Peter Temple but wont be rushing to read the entire series.
I tried twice to listen to this book but without success. I think maybe it's more of a man's book.
