Hideous narration

Especially the adults trying to do baby voices - couldn't be worse. I won't finish the book for that reason. I just can't listen to this.

OK

Decent, nice twists. Some of the characters are a bit simplistic, but then I have only read a couple of the earlier books in the series.

A little slow to start

I have listened to all of these books to this point. I agree with another reviewer that, initially, there were way too many characters to keep up with. It took me a while to pull it all together (4 hours). The narration was different because of different narrators. It was ok, not as bad as some say. I will still get the next book. This was probably my least favorite of the series.
I think it is interesting that mostly all the women in these books have red hair - or a shade of red and the men are described as well-toned and absolutely gorgeous. Except for the villains, of course.

Violence with Tender relationships

What did you love best about Backfire?

The friendships and the love.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not really. Too much predictable gore as it moved into the climax.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

"He said." "She said." too often. Sometimes a male voice, then a beat, then a female voice saying, "he said." Sheesh - no exclaimed, or shouted or cried, just 'said'.

Narration really slowed down the suspense and hampered the storyline. Are these narrators tired of doing this?

Sometimes male and female changed off with each other with no rhyme or reason, just enough to make the story not flow.

Any additional comments?

Disappointing.

Probably great in print version!

First the terrible narration was a real irritant. Either one of the narrators would have been better than the two of them together. It was irrational how they switched back and forth with all the he said/she said... nuts! The child voices were especially over the top ridiculous. I love listening to books but go with the print version of this for sure.

Second, I had trouble following the characters. I don't know the series so I didn't know who was who and Coulter switches between the first and last names so much it was really difficult for me to keep track. I find it easier to keep track of multiple characters in print but maybe that's just me.

Third, you really have to suspend disbelief in that the characters are shot/injured and hop up and keep going. Only the first guy shot is treated like it was a serious thing. I'm okay with that but some people insist on more reality and if that's you then you won't be happy with this.

If you are already a fan of this series then nothing on earth will stop you from reading this but I strongly suggest you go for the print. This isn't really my favorite genre but I'd read another from this series with a different narrator.
