Publisher's summary

Kidnappers have snatched the teenage son of super-star golfer Linda Coldren and her husband, Jack, an aging pro, at the height of the U.S. Open. To help get the boy back, sports agent Myron Bolitar goes charging after clues and suspects from the Main Line mansions to a downtown cheaters’ motel - and back in time to a U.S. Open 23 years ago, when Jack Coldren should have won, but didn't.

Suddenly Myron finds him self surrounded by blue bloods, criminals, and liars. And as one family's darkest secrets explode into murder, Myron finds out just how rough this game can get.

In novels that crackle with wit and suspense, Edgar Award winner Harlan Coben has created one of the most fascinating and complex heroes in suspense fiction - Myron Bolitar - a hotheaded, tenderhearted sports agent who grows more and more engaging and unpredictable with each pause-resisting appearance.

Critic reviews

"Another winner....Pungent observations, indelibly drawn characters and a twisting, surprise-laden plot." (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)

“Sharp plotting and emotional density, as well as nonstop wisecracks.” (Publishers Weekly)

Different than what I expected

This was a pleasant suprise. It kept my attention with the twist and turns, the humor. It didn't bore with me with a bunch of golf lingo. Usually I can guess the ending in a book but this took me by surprise. The book moved at a good pace.

WOW

This was the best of Coben's books on Myron Bolitar. Showing the connects to his friend Wyn's past.

My Favorite so far.

I love these characters and the writing is superb. Enough laughter and tears and suspense for all readers. I love learning more and more about the characters. The story still holds up and is s great blast to the past when discussing technology that was new at the time of the writing. Love this author. Read them in order of you can.

Myron Tries Golf

Myron Bolitar doesn't like golf, but he's at the US Open all the same looking for new clients. He is drawn into a series of mysteries when Win's mother recommends him to Win's cousin to help find her missing son. Complicating matters is that the cousin, a champion LPGA golfer, is married to the current runaway leader of the men's Open, which he famously choked away 20 years earlier.

Harlan Coben keeps you guessing all the way to the end, with his usual set of twists and turns and unexpected reveals. Overall, good stuff, but not quite at the five-star level I now expect from Coben having read 29 of his books (!!!). One thing completely missing is his recurring theme of the seedy underbelly of middle class suburban life -- this is set in the rarefied upper echelons of fancy golf clubs.

Also missing is Win -- not completely, he has his own secondary story line which delves into his background deeply. But he mostly recuses himself from the mystery and its investigation. Which is a bit of a shame since it is his family and his golf club at the center of it all. Still, even nearly thirty books in on my reading list, Coben is a favorite who does not disappoint.

Very entertaining

Harlan Coben is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. This book is consistent with all his other books in the series which I love. Although I always prefer to start at the beginning of a series of books Coben does a good job of tying what has happened in the past books into the future stories so you won't feel lost if you start in the middle (each story stands alone just fine). There are enough twists and turns to keep you interested but it's the comical delivery that I really enjoy most.

Awesome

I love this book, as I do every Myron but my only pet peeve is that they can’t label the chapters properly.
