Publisher's summary

Nine months ago Sara Adams awoke with no memory. The man holding her hand told her she's a member of The Light, a tight-knit religious group led by the terrifying and charismatic Father Gabriel. As a woman in the community of The Light, her duty is to be unquestionably obedient and to submit to the will of her husband.

But as Sara's memory starts to return and she remembers her past, she sees that everything she's been told is a lie. The Light is an insidious and dangerous organization, and its corrupting influence reaches well beyond the confines of the remote campus where Sara is being held.

With everything at stake, Sara struggles to sort out her true memories from her indoctrination. The desire to escape consumes her, but who can she trust? And which other followers of The Light were forced into this life, brainwashed to believe they belonged? The more she remembers, the more it becomes clear that Jacob, the man who calls himself her husband, is keeping shattering secrets of his own.

But Sara cannot flee alone, leaving innocents behind. She must fight to extinguish The Light.

Liars and Polar Bears and Cults... Oh My!

WOW! This is one incredibly good book. The story is nail bitingly taughtly told and covers all characters points of view to make this a very realistic story. This is book is part two and the series should be read in order. This is told so well that it makes it very believable, an almost ripped from the headlines cult run by a psychopathic misogynist. The women are so poorly treated it made my blood boil. For a book to elicit this kind of reaction from me makes it an exception.
The three narrators did an Excellent job.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

If you dislike dark novels look elsewhere!

What a great story! This novel is the sequel to Into the Light which MUST be listened to first; think of them as one long novel. Away From the Dark is profane, sexually explicit, very dark, and WONDERFUL. It reminds me a lot of JA Redmerski's In The Company of Killers series. Narration with 3 narrators is superb. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Super disturbing!

So, take a cult, escapees, the government, and the police... squish them altogether into the thriller of the year, and you MIGHT have some idea of the scope of this story. Seriously, I have some friends who were "lost" to a religious cult for a time, and I never could have imagined anything quite like this.

Really can't Say

I I am not sure what I think about this book. I read all the reviews & was impressed. However, I always take that with a grain of salt. First of all, unbeknownst to me the book Into the Light by By Aleatha Romig (13 HRS AND 17 MINS)
which suddenly ended – right out of the blue. No comment no nothing no warning! OK, now what do I do? I returned the book for a refund & went back to browse for another book. I came across a book titled Away From the Dark (same author (12 hrs 40 min. I bought it & found out it was part two of the Light Book. OK that was interesting. Again no prelude or warning. The book is looong too. The narrators fine, but the story line left a lot to be desired. It definitely came off depicting Stockholm syndrome to the extreme (which I studied in college, & which I realized the experiment was shut down due to adverse & unexplainable reasons. But ‘dangerous’ would fit nicely. This book takes this subject manner around the world & back regarding cults too, until ending it seems impossible. A lot of the book is dark (less SOME of the sex writing. So all in, this book left me feeling more for wear & less for content, & not worth the time it took to listen to it. Sorry! All I got out of it
was wondering whose head i was supposed to be in.

Wish there was a 3rd book after the Epilogue

Loved this series and was very impressed with Romig's ability to capture the audience. When I first started listening I was skeptical because the character building was lengthy and the religious aspect was slightly boring but once the first book picked up speed I listened to the second book in 2 days. Definitely twists and turns I was (and wasn't) expecting which is always nice.

You could have skipped the first part

What disappointed you about Away from the Dark?

it ended up being very soap-operaish

Would you ever listen to anything by Aleatha Romig again?

probably not

What three words best describe the narrators’s performance?

the narration for Sara/Stella was good. She didn't sound like she was just reading. But the narrator for Jacob/Jacoby tried too hard and you could tell he just read

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

the story premise was good

Great slowly evolving mystery

I really enjoyed both parts 1 & 2 of this story. It has all the right elements; mystery, suspense, intrigue and surprising twists that kept me guessing until the end. My only criticism, and the reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5, is the awkward, soap-opera inspired descriptive sex scenes. They seem to have been taken from a dollar store romance novel and dropped into a clever, mystery novel. They nearly ruined this story for me. Otherwise, I highly recommend it.

Brilliant, suspenseful and engaging this romantic

Any additional comments?

In Away from the Dark, Sara begins to regain her memories, and finds herself confused, especially when it comes to her feelings for Jacob. We as the listener/reader know all about Jacob, but Sara only knows what he and those from the Light have shared. Their attraction and feelings are genuine only complicating things, particularly for Jacob. Romig does an excellent job of fleshing out the characters and making their actions believable.

I found myself holding my breath as the author notched up the tension. She drew the characters closer together as they faced exposure. The twists and turns kept me listening into the wee hours. I was anxious about the couple and feared for their very lives. It was brilliant and addictive.

I enjoyed the suspense angle immensely. Those dealing with the inner workings of the cult were downright chilling. It provided us with an inside look into these groups and the tactics they use. I appreciated that the author showed why people are drawn to them in addition to showcasing the corruption at the head of these groups. Father Gabriel and his disciples gave me the chills, and I hung on every morsel.

David LeDoux, Erin deWard, and Kevin T. Collins narrated giving us the perspectives of Jacob, Sara and those of Dylan. They were all impressive allowing me to connect to each character.

Do not skip the Epilogue…OMG. While the story of Sara and Jacob is over, I am sincerely hoping we get more stories about the Light.

BRIDES OF THE LIGHT ARE TO FULFILL FATHER GABRIEL

He slices their skin so the darkness can escape otherwise he wouldn't be able to enter them.

Father Gabriel is one f--ked up megalomaniac. I have never heard such crazy.

If you have listened to 'Into The Light' you have to listen to "Away From The Dark." This is one of the best followups to a book I've ever heard. It kept me intrigued, excited, and disgusted. The ending is full of suspense and surprises, definitely not a let down.

Aleatha Romig has written her best novel yet...she has an amazing talent. David Ledoux, Erin deWard, Kevin T. Collins, gave an all consuming performance.

Definitely worth the credit/$$.
