Publisher's Summary

The summer before he goes to college, Ricky Colenso travels to Bosnia to volunteer as an aid worker. A few weeks later, he disappears and is never heard from again. A family grieves and is offered little hope - in the fog of that horrible time and place, the killer, too, has vanished.

Attorney Calvin Dexter hangs his shingle in a quiet New Jersey town, has a reasonably successful practice, and takes the hills strong while triathlon training. But Dexter is no ordinary man.

In a world that has forgotten right and wrong, there are few like Cal Dexter who can settle the score. And so, years later, a worldwide chase is on and Dexter begins to draw a net around the killer. But this time CIA agent Paul Devereux must find a way to stop Dexter before his quest for vengeance throws the world into chaos.

A heart-stopping novel of murder and mystery, double-cross and triple-cross, old loyalties and new hatreds, Avenger has all of Frederick Forsyth's page-turning trademarks.

    "The master!!"

Forsyth again proves himself to be the master of suspense. As much as I like to read Clancy, Forsyth blows him out of the water with another masterful tale of heroism and perseverance. The narration is strong and the story is absolutely rivetting. This is well worth the money or one of your monthly book tokens. Truly wonderful. ENJOY!!

"A whirlwind history tour with excitment to boot"

I haven't read Forsyth in quite a while (over a decade) and as such had forgotten how much detail he pours into his books (either that, or he's changed his style a lot!). He weaves so much history into the telling of this story, that on occasion I found myself saying outloud..."how about getting back to the story!". None the less, the odd times when I felt I was listening to a history professor were countered by an overall good story that kept me guessing and interested to the end.

Eric conger brings this book to life. The backround information that Forsyth brings to the overall plot are real and helps you to live the adventure. Once you start, it is extremely difficult to put down,

    "Forsythe at his best!"

The Avenger is an excellent combination of fact with fiction. The story is absolutely compelling and filled with exciting suspence. Right up until the last 45 min. of tape I had no idea how the protagonist was going to get out of his assignment alive. I couldn't put my ipod down, wanted to listen 24/7!

    "Could not put it down!"

Typical Forsyth novel... great momentum that keeps going until the very end. Not a shoot-em-up romp, but a sophisticated read that is as finely woven as an Egyptian cotton shirt. Forsyth unfolds his plot through a series of vignettes that culminate into an enjoyable and memorable climax. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel!

    "Great Book"

This book is an excellent choice for fans of this genre - and even for those who aren't.

The author does a nice job of setting up present day events with things that have happened in the past.

The charachter development is well done and serves to make the reader understand their motivations.

I definitely wanted to stay up all night listening to see what happened next.

Although it is a book loaded with espionage action and intrigue, when it ends you realize that it really is a story about the value of the golden rule-if you treat people poorly it will eventually catch up to you. Likewise if you are loyal to your friends, you will often harvest a bond that can never be broken.

Computer Programmer and Worship Leader. Have enjoyed reading since my mom got me hooked on Nancy Drew and Agatha Christie prior to my teen years. My brother got me hooked on audio books after I started having a longer commute to work. Love a variety of genres.

    "Another Great Forsyth Book"

Having read the majority of Forsyth's books, I can say that this is another great read. While not his best, it is definitely in the upper one-third. From the first sentence of the book (which is a great attention-getter) you are taken in by the story.

This probably has the greatest amount of "background information" on the book's characters of any of his novels I have read. This aspect of the book reminded me of Tom Clancy or Stephen King.

As is always the case with Forsyth's novels, this is also a great learning experience as well as a suspense novel. Forsyth discusses the "Tunnel Rats" in Vietnam, as well as the issues surround Bosnia, both of which were very interesting.

As is usual, his story has a great ending.

Enjoy!! It's well worth the time!

A terrific read. You know you'll always get something memorable from Forsyth and this was no exception. Eric Conger's narration was excellent.
