At Bertram’s Hotel the intrepid Miss Marple, on holiday in London, must solve a deadly mystery at the end of a chain of very violent events.

An old-fashioned London hotel is not quite as reputable as it makes out to be.…

When Miss Marple comes up from the country for a holiday in London, she finds what she’s looking for at Bertram’s Hotel: traditional decor, impeccable service, and an unmistakable atmosphere of danger behind the highly-polished veneer.

Yet, not even Miss Marple can foresee the violent chain of events set in motion when an eccentric guest makes his way to the airport on the wrong day.…

Slow

It lack the luster of Agatha Christie’s previous stories - very slow, moving, and no one seem to garner any sympathy from the reader

Not really a Ms. Marple mystery.

Ms. Marple is less than a secondary character in this story. Almost as though she had to include the character to insure readership.

Fabulous story as usual

Just what you’d expect from Christie and Marple. Great fun characters and intriguing mystery story.

Odd Marple

This one seemed odd to me most of the way through. Marple is secondary, as she is in many of hers, but overall the story/plot mirrors to some degree some of the stand alone adventure type Christie’s with shadowy organizations & conspiracy. It would have been easy to leave Marple out if this & just used a new character but using Marple ensures readership.

Classic Whodunnit

Love the movies and all their variations from the book. But I feel the book deserves a 3 part miniseries to do it justice. The narrator was excellent. I got this book at a discount on a black Friday sale and I thought there would be a catch. Like background noise, or bad narration. But I was pleasantly surprised.

Wonderful narration by Cole, ok story

The story was all right, well told throughout but with a kind of lackluster finish. The solution and tie-ups weren't as satisfying as most Christie stories; the ending felt mushier and had more hand-waving than her usual endings. Cole, however, does a fantastic job with the narration. Particularly, I was impressed with an American accent she did in the book. I can't judge other accents very well, but, being American, I've often found attempts at American accents to sound jarring and a bit irritating. I thought Cole's (albeit brief) American voice was quite spot-on.

Miss Marple?

I was incredibly surprised at how little Miss Marple actually had to do with this story. She almost seems to be an unnecessary character.

Atmospheric + excellent narration

I would love to hear Stephanie Cole narrate all the Miss Marple mysteries. Her tempo and manner make you feel you are going through Miss Marple's day right at her side, and it's a wonderful feeling (despite all the sinister goings-on).

This was not my favorite Miss Marple mystery (mainly towards the end) - but I didn't mind because I loved hearing Stephanie Cole's narration.

Not a murder mystery

No actual murder in this long-winded story that lacks suspense. Not one of Christie's best.
