"One of my favorite Agatha Christies"

I enjoyed the twists and turns, and the intricate plot lines. I like the stories where Christie developes her characters to this extent. One of the 'kinder, gentler' mysteries.

    "Agatha Christie is always enjoyable"

Entertaining as always, although not one of her best. Although it's classified as a Miss Marple story, Miss M is hardly a player in the narrative. Good narration by Stephanie Cole.

"Hotel Mystery is Just What You Need!"
Would you consider the audio edition of At Bertram's Hotel to be better than the print version?

I didn't read the print version, but I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the story.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot had a number of twists and turns, and at one poimt I was sure I knew who was doing the killing, but Ms. Christie fooled me again.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Early in the book, Miss Marple was exploring the people in the tea room with a commontary about all of the guests, their backgrounds, and the gains and begottens. Now you were ready to find the culprit.

    Any additional comments?

I just thoroughly enjoyed listening to the book, and did it in one day because it was so terribly intriging.

    "A pleasant stay at Bertram's."
If you could sum up At Bertram's Hotel in three words, what would they be?

    Intriguing. Complicated. Entertaining.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes it did. There were many twists and turns that went in all directions before the end.

What does Stephanie Cole bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her voices are good and clear.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Wanted to, yes! If only.

    Any additional comments?

Most Christie books are a good listen but this is definately one of my favorites.

Voracious reader/listener: I usually have one ebook and one audiobook going at a the same time. I'm a very eclectic reader so I tend to switch genres after every book. I'm open to most genres but my favorites in audio are mystery and fantasy (epic and urban both).

    "Among Agatha's worsts!"

This is probably one of the worst books by Agatha Christie I have read. The mystery was boring and the murder came too late. And it was so obvious who the murderer was! Worst, there wasn't conclusive proof that they could put the villain in jail, only a policeman's vow that he would find a way.

I didn't rate it worse because I loved this quote - which I found terrible but truthful:

"I learned (what I suppose I really knew already) that one can never go back, that one should not ever try to go back - that the essence of life is going forward. Life is really a One Way Street, isn't it?"

This is pretty much the idea behind the plot. Too bad the execution wasn't very good!

    "One of my favorites"
What made the experience of listening to At Bertram's Hotel the most enjoyable?

This is just one of my favorite Agatha Christie's. It has everything that makes her books so enjoyable, the wonderful eccentric British characters, the astute character observations, a well plotted story. There's a reason why her books have stood the test of time. In this case, Stephanie Cole does a marvelous job of bringing Miss Marple to life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I just adore Miss Marple. Something about this little old lady no one pays attention to, but she's so astute, a much better observer than all the "smarter" people around her.

Have you listened to any of Stephanie Cole’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've enjoyed Stephanie Cole's performances before, but this was the first time I've listened to her read, and it was wonderful. She brought all the characters to life, but more importantly it was a well-paced reading.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the various police authorities have gathered with Miss Marple in the hotel and she keeps pulling rabbits out of the hat, surprising them with all the things she's noticed and discovered about the various guests and hotel employees.

What did you like best about this story?

I found the mysterious appearance of the hotel as well as its deception to be most interesting.

No, but I most certainly will in the future.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes

    Any additional comments?

Stephanie Cole's narration really brings you into the story. The range of characters she narrates was well performed.
