Publisher's summary

From thriller and suspense master Brett Battles comes Ashes, the fourth book in the continuing Project Eden thriller saga.

The hammer has fallen. The deadly Sage Flu has been unleashed. The scramble for survival is in full force.

Martina Gable and her family escaped to a secluded mountain cabin in hopes of avoiding the death sweeping the desert valley below. But have they gone far enough?

Dominic Ray, manager of a tropical, private island resort, has a dream job. The weather, the food, the drinks, the people - life couldn't be better. What he didn’t expect - what no one could have expected - was that his good life was about to disappear. In a sea of the sick and dying, Sanjay and Kusum desperately search for a place beyond Mumbai where they and the group they are leading can be safe, and where they can prepare for what the future may bring.

Brandon Ash wants nothing more than to be with his father and sister, but there is something waiting for him on a deserted, snow-covered highway. Something that may mean the reunion will never happen.

As Daniel Ash, Brandon's father, lies unconscious from the serious wounds he suffered while hunting for his son, his daughter Josie realizes it's up to her to find her brother and bring him home. But the search will be a dangerous one, that will take her far from home.

And then there is Project Eden, watching the plague kill as they had planned, even as they prepare to activate the next phase.

What will you do to survive?

Ashes is best read after completing volumes 1-3 (Sick, Exit 9, and Pale Horse).

Book 4

Any additional comments?

this is book 4 the story continues...... This one drags on a bit with a lot of filler, unnecessary gibberish that doesn't do anything for the story. Don't get me wrong, its a good story but when will there be an end? 4 credits and counting

Another perfect book in the series

The Eden series has wonderful character development, good suspense, and a plot that is we'll thought-out and consistent throughout the multiple books. This one is no exception... highly recommended!

Gets better

As the crisis in the world progresses, this series just keeps getting better. Am jumping straight into the next book. MacLeod Andrews does an awesome job as narrator.

exciting the whole way through!

Ashes. The ashes of humanity, the ashes of civilization, maybe even the ashes of morality since the people who started this whole pandemic are evil self-important, and selfish. But mostly, this is about the Ashes--Capt. Ashe, Josie Ashe, and Brandon Ashe.

Brandon has been separated from the Bunker in Montana and is running for his life. He thinks everyone has been killed by the Project people. So, of course, his dad, and then his sister go after him. It's quite a ride across several states with the Project chasing him, and other people paranoid and therefore afraid to help. He is a well-trained, resourceful guy, but still, he is only 12.

And again, as in the previous books, we get to see humanity at its best and worst in other places around the world. Sanjay in India, Martina in California, and another college girl alone in the dorms over the Christmas holiday. Then there is an enclave of tourists on a resort island off Costa Rica. Their smaller stories make the pandemic real and global for us, and we empathize with them all. Hard decisions must be made in order for any to survive.

This is not as gritty a story as some others, but it is enthralling and exciting, so much so that you might not sleep for listening! MacLeod Andrews continues the narration and does his usual excellent job. A very satisfying read throughout the series.

When does it end??? (In a good way)

Where does Ashes rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top 5, easily

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ashes?

When the world population numbers kept dwindling.

What does MacLeod Andrews bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I absolutely love the different voices! I can't believe it's just one person doing the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Martina found her friends. Especially the girl at the house. For some reason I found it very funny. LOL

Any additional comments?

I've already purchased book 5.........................

Great series, suspenseful and nic character arcs

Note: except for my review in book one, will use this as my review for the rest in the series.

I review the first book when I was on book four. I think I gave story 4 stars only because I think books three and four should have been combined in one longer book. Book one really rates a five.

I felt three and four should have been combined because three ended unexpectedly, without a true ending, very much a cliffhanger. If I would have had to wait between three and four, I may not have continued. Luckily, I did not have to wait and I could binge listen.

I give the series five stars for the overall story (thank you for pandemic without zombies) The most excellent reader and the character arcs (growth) from beginning to end. This is why I like characters. They must remain true to their character (steadfast) or they grow, learn and adapt to the conflicts in the story - either way, they stay on mission, achieving small goals that lead to the larger overall goal of the series. In the series most grow and grow well. Most notably, Ash's kids, Sanjay and his friends, Martina and her friends and the group on the island off Costa Rica. I was engrossed in all of their lives and struggles and how they really had to fight to survive.

This was my first time reading Brett Battles and I enjoyed it very much. I can't say enough about MacLeod Andrews except he was so good in this series I rate him number two in my list of readers, right behind Ray Porter.

This was an OUTSTANDING series!!

This was an OUTSTANDING series that made me grab the next book in the series well before I was done with the previous... I did this so I would not miss a beat in the story... It was so compelling, and quite original in its overall plot, I thought... Do yourself a favor, and start with "Sick" the first in the series, and then don't stop until you get to "Down" the seventh and "final?" installment... You will NOT regret it!!
