George Guidall - amazing performance

George Guidall is incredible. I’ve listened to the first eight books in the series and I can recognize every character based on his performance. He isn’t over the top like some narrators, and I will start looking for books based on him rather than the author once I’ve finished the series. If it weren’t for him I would not have bothered to write anything here.

And I suppose I ought to mention the book itself! I love the Longmire mysteries. They keep me hooked from beginning to end. Whilst some of his adventures are a little far fetched, Walt’s character is very human. He is flawed, as we all are, and I love his dark sarcasm. For those that watched the TV show first...the book is better as the saying goes.

The Latest in the Walt Longmire Series

Well we’ve finally reached the book in which Walt Longmire’s daughter, Katie will be married. This book is the best one of this series in a long time, to my mind. Lots of Henry Standing Bear and Walt Longmire together-always priceless. Katie getting ready for her wedding with her future mother-in-law in tow. A new character, a Crow Indian Chief of Police for the reservation-a strong character who at first doesn’t want to show what she doesn’t know and therefore is hostile to Longmire, the horrible Red Dog truck, Dog, the animal. Besides for getting ready for the wedding, with some wonderful moments between father and daughter, we do have a case. Henry and Walt see a woman and child thrown off the cliff-at least they believe she was thrown or pushed because what mother would jump to her death with her child in her arms? The woman dies but her baby survives. At first they think it is her husband who killed her because he had abused her. But then he is shot dead as well. Walt and Henry and the new Indian chief work together to solve the case with the usual adventure and life-threatening ventures. Possibly my favorite so far in the series.

Craig Johnson & Guidall always good

I have read all 8 of the Longmire books by Craig Johnson and have thoroughly enjoyed them all. With George Guidall narrating, you can just picture the characters. Hope Johnson writes another one very soon.

Not Nearly As Good As The Last Three.

The last three books held me spellbound.

This one seemed a more "By The Book" book, saved by brilliant, tear-wringing glimpses into Walt's relationship with Martha. The parallels to Walt having to let both Martha and Cady go were... brilliant.

Vic being the crow was vintage Craig Johnson.

Lolo Long was expertly crafted.

Important to understanding the continuation of the series and so worth listening to as Walt realizes he must let Cady go, pointedly said by his one line in the marriage.

But the rest seems just filler in between moments of the literary genius that we all crave in Johnson's books.

I Liked Longmire before it was on TV

Would you listen to As the Crow Flies again? Why?

I seldom listen any book twice since there are so many good books and so little time.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I always have like Henry Standing Bear. He has a way of putting everything in perspective with a great dry humor.

Which scene was your favorite?

Of course in this book, Katie's marriage is forefront so the image of her at the wedding ceremony sticks in my mind. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read the book yet.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The series is on TV,so no tag line comes to mind.

Any additional comments?

It's a great series, especially if you are looking for a good story and just a good listen.
