Arsonist

A series of deadly fires rages across the cityscape, claiming the lives of entire families. Helpless to stop the fires, the SDPD assigns their most famous detective, Jon Stanton, to the case. The evidence points him to a single arsonist committing the horrendous acts. But with a troubled young girl as his only credible witness, Stanton is running out of time. "Warning – There are some graphic scenes"

First thoughts about the cover of Arsonist? A naked bald person curled up in a fetal huddle? Odd, very odd. Is this a sign of someone needing help? A mental disorder? Someone being tortured? The red fire lettering of the title give the cover an even more ominous feel.

The main character is Jon Stanton. He is a police detective with the San Diego Police Department. He is kind, caring, and determined to stop the arsonist from hurting anymore people. He has to struggle to deal with a lousy partner, police politics, and the arsonist focusing his attention onto him when he gets in the way.

The Narrator is R.C. Bray. He has a very calming voice. I found it to be very soothing with a hint of a deeper rumble in some of the characters’ voices. The Author is Victor Methos. This story is Book Four of the Jon Stanton series. It is six hours and thirty minutes long.

Warning – There are some graphic scenes in this book. I would not recommend this book for a young or teen audience. The usual suspects of blood and sex. It had several good detailed scenes of fires and fire aftermaths. This book left me thinking about the addictions people have and hide from others. About children being warped and broken by their parents and turning into warped broken adults. And about how people have choices to either become the evil they have been shown or face it and become better persons for having known that darkness.

    "Hardcore Book!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Arsonist to be better than the print version?

I've never read the print version so I can't say. Unless the narration's terrible, I'll always prefer audio over print.

Have you listened to any of R. C. Bray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I think I have listened to R.C. Bray before and if I remember correctly he did a really good narrating the previous books I've heard and he did another good job with this book too. I especially liked the voice he gave the antagonist.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Ya, I guess there was but I'm not going to say what it was. Again, I don't like answering this part of the review because it gives part of the story away. Maybe you guys don't mind but it kinda bothers me to find out ahead of time important parts of the book before I've had a chance to hear it first. I don't know, maybe it's just me.

    Any additional comments?

This is a brutal, hardcore and very well written suspense thriller that is very hard to put down. This book has one of the most sinister, f**ked up antagonists I've listen to in a long time. I liked this book a lot, it's too bad it wasn't longer. I've never heard of the Writer before(Victor Methos) but after hearing this book I'll be keeping tabs on his new book releases.

"Great Story accentuated by Narrator R.C. Bray"
Would you listen to Arsonist again? Why?

Yes, It was very suspenseful and really liked the Characters Stanton & Gunn

What was one of the most memorable moments of Arsonist?

The scene where Gunn went to the Junkie Whores place for a booty call, only to almost be double crossed by the guys she sent to have him killed.

Have you listened to any of R. C. Bray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

R.C. Bray is my favorite narrator and have listened to several other books he has narrated. He always does a phenomenal job reading and telling the stories.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Must watch thriller! Can the cops Stanton & Gunn stop the arsonist before he kills again.

    Any additional comments?

Look up R.C. Bray on Audible and see what other great books he has narrated you will not be sorry on any choice you make.

    ""Thrill lit""

No great literary fiction here but OK as a fairly basic 'in genre' thriller. Pace is fast, protagonist is evil and the cop is good and a Mormon to boot! Cop gets the baddy and the girl in the end. The narrator is well selected for this role.
