Publisher's summary

Sheriff Walt Longmire had already rounded up a sizable posse of devoted readers when the A&E television series Longmire sent the Wyoming lawman’s popularity skyrocketing. Now, in Any Other Name, Walt is sinking into high-plains winter discontent when his former boss, Lucian Conally, asks him to take on a mercy case in an adjacent county. Detective Gerald Holman is dead and Lucian wants to know what drove his old friend to take his own life. With the clock ticking on the birth of his first grandchild, Walt learns that the by-the-book detective might have suppressed evidence concerning three missing women. Digging deeper, Walt uncovers an incriminating secret so dark that it threatens to claim other lives even before the sheriff can serve justice - Wyoming style.

Always enjoy reading about Longmire’s adventures! This book as all of the previous ones did let me down!

Very Predicable Mystery

I am a latecomer to the world of Walt Longmire, I started reading the novels after I'd gotten hooked on the TV series and quickly learned that as with most TV and Movie adaptions, the book is better.
Honestly the only negative thing I can say about this novel is that I knew by the end of the first chapter who did it and where and how the central "mystery" would end. I love the world that Craig Johnson created with Walt and his "partners in crime" and enjoy the time I get to spend with them on their adventures, but as a mystery writer he leaves a lot to be desired.

Having read all of the Walt Longmire series within 4 months time I noticed a pattern emerge that doesn't necessarily "ruin" the mysteries, but it does kind of take away from the whodunnit aspect I enjoy about reading mysteries, but on the bright side, it does let me concentrate on the characters, and their relationships.

I am not going to spoil the story, it is very entertaining and there are a lot of moments(though I have to admit the way Johnson worked Henry Standing Bear into the story seems like he was writing the story and then about halfway through he realized that Henry wasn't in it and just kind of had him show up just in time.).
This is a fine entry in the Longmire series and finally gives Walt his Moriarty.

Smells Plenty Sweet!

"Any Other Name" is the 11th installment in the Walt Longmire mystery series. I got here because I have read the other 10 and really enjoyed most of them.

If you're planning on reading this as your 11th Longmire too, be aware: #10 was so incredible that it's hard to imagine #11 being anything other than a slight step down.

That said, this was still a great story. I liked that it takes place in South Dakota instead of Wyoming, which Walt calls home; the scenery, animals (buffalo), and cast of South Dakotan characters added to the entertainment value. I also liked that, when trying to unravel one mystery, Walt finds himself in the middle of another (and of course he is determined to solve them both). Despite the distance from home, Walt involves his trusty sidekicks, Henry Standing Bear and Victoria Moretti, who bring humor and clever repartee (and backup when the going gets tough) to the story.

I suppose when one reads a series, one assumes the star of it is going to survive (otherwise, how can there be book #12?), so in that sense this books is predictable. However, I did not see the end coming as far as how the mysteries turned out!

George Guidall was born to narrate this series. I cannot imagine trying to read these books and missing out on his amazing narration.

One note: I believe Longmire fans are divided into those who find the occasional forays into Native American mysticism/hallucinations entertaining, and those who find it annoying. I'm in the latter group, and so found one of the chapters painful to get through, but thankfully it was limited to that one section.

ANOTHER WINNER!!

If you could sum up Any Other Name in three words, what would they be?

Walt Longmire Rules.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

True confession time. The mysteries always take a backseat to the characters and their interactions for me. I would enjoy a story where Walt, Henry, Lonny, and Lucian and went camping and did nothing bust fish and talk just as much as the most mysterious mystery.

What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Well, he IS Walt Longmire and even more so, he IS Henry Standing Bear. He completely ruined the television series for me.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Walt, at the end.

Any additional comments?

You won't go wrong with this series, but you'll get so much more out of it if you listen to it in order.

One of my favorite series

Love the characters, the dry humor, integration of the culture of "Cheyenne Country ". Narration is wonderful. Hope another Longmire book is on
the horizon.

love Longmire!

Featuring all our favorites! Another great Longmire mystery! I always love the books with Lucien in them, I especially enjoyed the banter between Lucien and Vic. I think she's the only one who's ever left him speechless!

Excellent narrator

The story twists and turns. It is very well written with such vivid descriptions. It is one of the best audio books I've heard.
