Publisher's summary

World-renowned Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to a Swiss research facility to analyze a cryptic symbol seared into the chest of a murdered physicist. What he discovers is unimaginable: a deadly vendetta against the Catholic Church by a centuries-old underground organization, the Illuminati. Desperate to save the Vatican from a powerful time bomb, Langdon joins forces in Rome with the beautiful and mysterious scientist Vittoria Vetra. Together they embark on a frantic hunt through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals, and the most secretive vault on earth, the long-forgotten Illuminati lair.

Listen for fun but not after eating

I enjoyed reading DaVinci Code and found Angels & Demons equally enjoyable. In fact the chapter structure makes it easier for short listening. I take the religous part with a grain of salt but found the gruesome descriptions stomach-turning. The grossness does detract slightly but so much that I would skip the book.

AMAZING READ ON DAY POPE DIED - COMPELLING!

Incredible story, keeps you guessing all the way through. Robert Langdon is a great character, so believeable and likable. Dan Brown is by far my favourite author as he researches every aspect of his writing so much so that you could believe he must know Popes/assasins/scientists/secret service agents/police. The way he describes various methods of a character dying/being killed puts shivers down your spine, where did he find out such details... Finished the book on the day the POPE DIED, which made the story even more surreal. After reading a Dan Brown novel, you just have to read all his others!

makes you think.

Would you listen to Angels and Demons again? Why?

Yes I would, besides it being a good book with a plot and twist, it had information in the book that's makes you wonder if it is possible for a secret society to exist or for monuments that were built so long ago to really have a different meaning or to be a part of a secret society.. I am one that loves to travel and see different artifacts and monuments from historical times and now this book has me wanting to really look at different churches and tombs to see if I can find different markings.

What did you like best about this story?

The twist.. I never saw that twist coming, through the whole story I was under the impression that a secret society did exist and they were doing all this, I never thought a man of God was behind all of this. But I do understand both sides and see where the Calimante was coming from.

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene where they got the matter and blew it up. How they both survived was the beat scene to me. I am anxious to watch the movie so I can see that part.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The ending when they were watching the video showing the truth behind the meeting and when the Calimante died..

Any additional comments?

I want to go back to Rome again

I my view, this is the best Dan Brown. I got so frustrated every time I arrived at work and had to stop. Pity I was at Rome before I read the book - now I want to go back to visit the places mentioned in the book.

Good Story

My only complaint is that when the narrator pauses, you can hear him swallowing. Its really annoying but once you get past that its a great audiobook.

Great to follow on Wikipedia...

I like to read historically based novels because I can look up artifacts and places on Wikipedia as I listen. It really enhances my reading experience. This book has several extended endings. But, because the author is so skilled in his research and presentation, the 5 endings to the book were exciting. Just when you think the story is over (and it could have been) something else suspenseful happens, then something else...and something else. I also recommend Chris Ride's two novels. I think they are actually better. Worth a credit though.

Angels & Demons

What a ride, a thrill a minute. Robert Langdon is a more believable Jack Bauer with alot of great history thrown in. Just as good as Da Vinci. A timely read in light of the passing of Pope John Paul II.

Great read; loved it!

I have not read the DiVinci code but I have seen the movie. It was very good and thought provoking. However, after listening to Angels and Demons and then seeing the movie, the book was more than thought provoking and good, it was a wonderfully written book. I see why the movie had to be the way it was but it did capture the essence of the book. If you have or haven't seen the movie listening to the book is like seeing a movie in your mind. Great book just great.

Excellent!

I have read Angels and Deamons as well as Da Vinci Code. This book is even better! I highly recommend listening and/or reading the unabridged version. It is well worth your time.
