Publisher's summary

An activist attorney is killed in a cute little L.A. trolley called Angels Flight, far from Harry Bosch's Hollywood turf. But the case is so explosive - and the dead man's enemies inside the L.A.P.D. are so numerous - that it falls to Harry to solve it. Now the streets are superheating. Harry's year-old Vegas marriage is unraveling. And the hunt for a killer is leading Harry to another high-profile L.A. murder case, one where every cop had a motive. The question is, did any have the guts?

Really captivating story

I’m always amazed that people like Michael Connelly have imaginations that can come up with stories like this one. Worth listening to even though the narration was tortured sounding with the Bosch character.
I have listened to another Bosch book by this narrator, and he improved a lot after this. I’m guessing in response to the feedback, so good for him. But I wouldn’t skip this book because of the narration, it’s possible to get used to it and the story is great.

Another Good Connelly!

The narrator of this book, Giles, was good but Hill is a much better performer...The plot of this novel is a good one with the usual murders but also with child porno included. It also has the usual twists and turns Bosch's novels are known for. Enjoyable. I would recommend.

Reeeely Good Bosch

Harry's self inflicting wounds again, driven by his pesky sense of ethics.Connelly is such a competent technician that once more the plot is complex yet accessible. The characters while each drawn with limited brushstrokes, are competently formed to create tension, feed momentum, and buckle me in right to the darkly satisfying ending among the burning streets of Las Angeles.

I took a rest from Harry for some months, but Angels Flight's made me wonder why. Regardless, Connelly spent time on this tale, it shows. He's a pro and fortunate to have Peter Giles interpret his ensemble so effectively. Thing is though, I'd recommend not stating the Harry Bosch novels with this one. Nope, go on back to the beginning so you'll enjoy the tales that have led up to Angels Flight. But if you must start here, well this story can stand alone pretty effectively.

The Narrator doesn't work

The story is great but the narrator sounds like he's doing the trailer for an action movie. I didn't like it and I looked ahead and was glad he only did this one book in the series.

Best One Yet!

While I miss Dick Hill’s narration, the story more than made up for it. I try to save my listening time for my commute to work but found myself not able to do this with Angel’s Flight. Highly recommended.

Story is great; Narrator just ok

I have listened to a number of books in the series and agree with other reviewers. The story is great but I struggled with the narrator. Not nearly as good as the earlier audio books for Bosch series.

Good story, season 1 in TV series

On par with the other books in the series, which I enjoy a lot.

Worth the listen and the one credit.

Very Twisted Plot With Good Intrigue

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. This is an early book with Bosch having married but now with his marriage in trouble but not allowing it to interfere with his job. A very messy murder occurred and his team is called in to investigate. You soon figure out that his boss Chief Irving is looking for a resolution but wants it to be contained. Their long disagreements continue. Bosch sees the world with honesty but reality, while Irving protects the reputation of the department. Makes for a tense but workable situation.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Angels Flight?

The pain that Bosch reveals over his wife's desire to leave him. He does what he always does and buries his feelings in his job. This book, shows his softer side with the interviews of the wife of the murdered child and all the way through.

What about Peter Giles’s performance did you like?

No. I prefer Dick Hill. Mr. Giles made a good effort but he lacks the ability the vary his voice like Dick Hill. Ish all the books were narrated by duck .hill.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

At the end when Harry turned into the riot area. I wasn't abd still am not sure if it was intentional or not. It certainly solved his dilemma.

Any additional comments?

I love Harry Bosch and that means Michael Connelly. The character is fully developed so,that we feel Bosch' emotions and clearly understand that he is a cop first and foremost BUT with a conscience. Start with a Book 1 and go through to the recent book 19. Every one is an individual story with a kick.
