Audible Editor Reviews

When Alison Kerby bought a huge Victorian house in the New Jersey town of Harbor Haven, she didn't know that it already contained two permanent residents: eccentric ghosts named Paul and Maxie. So Alison only had one choice. She turned the house into a haunted bed and breakfast for senior citizens looking for a "unique vacation experience". In this second Haunted Guesthouse Mystery, E. J. Copperman's witty and accessible heroine helps solve a murder case - with the help of her paranormal colleagues.

Amanda Ronconi is an experienced comedic performer, and this audiobook is right up her alley. The dialogue, ghostly hijinks, and offbeat escapades are all enhanced by her excellent pacing and varied voices.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters are very realistic and funny. I received many strange looks for laughing out loud. I'm glad I discovered this series.

    "A positively funny book!"
If you could sum up An Uninvited Ghost in three words, what would they be?

    Hilariously funny follow-up!

What did you like best about this story?

It builds on the series, while adding new mysteries to solve. The ending was definitely a surprise because the villain of the story isn't who you would assume it was.

What does Amanda Ronconi bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She brings the characters to life with different voices for each character and in each book, the character's voice doesn't change. I like that in a narrator.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A guest house to run and I have a ghost who wants me to play Sherlock Holmes!

It was fun. The ghost, the Down the Shore cast, ghost tours. The character H-Bomb, hmm sounds like a jersey shore.

I am in love with these books, they are awesome! This one had an incredible twist that left me in the dust!! I love Scottish accents so that was an add plus. I love the author's ingenious use of the word "migraine!" That alone had me laughing till the ghosts came home! Perhaps if enough people listen to this book, "migraine" will become the news all purpose word! These books are the best and you are missing out if you don't give them a try.

A light listen. Nothing special, just a cute story. If you read the first of the series you should know what to expect.

"Really a terrific series to listen to with Tweens!"

Loved that I could listen with grandchildren and not worry about the language, sex or violence. There is enough action and suspense and the characters are so funny, the author didn't need to throw in garbage. Thank you so much for this great series!!

    "Great Characters!"

E.J. Copperman is so talented at creating great characters to get invested in ... I can identify with Allison and her mothers relationship and love the dynamic the two ghost inhabitants bring to the story line! I can't wait to read the next book!!!

    "Cozy murder mystery."

When a recently divorced mother of one renovates an old home into a bed and breakfast, she may have bitten off a little more than she can chew. During construction she and her daughter start to experience spectral sightings and by the time of completion they have accepted and welcomed their friendly, paranormal inhabitants. While still trying to embrace that her first tenants are permanent and ghostly, there is an unexplainable murder that opens the floodgates for the press and local police of this small town.

I was wavering between a three and four star rating but about half way through the pace picked up and the characters became endearing. I think this is a fun, light, cozy series that according to the reviewers just gets better and better. As always, Amanda Rinconi does an exceptional job narrating.

    "quirky supernatural detective mystery"

This is the second book in the haunted guesthouse series, and is every much as refreshing, quirky and enjoyable as the first. It provides a combination of tongue-in-cheek humour, wacky antics and a complicate murder involving living and dead characters. The confusion that prevails is what makes this book quirky and fun.

When Alison Kerby purchases an old property to convert into a guesthouse, she discovers that it comes with two resident ghosts, Paul Harrison (newly qualified P.I.) and Maxie Malone (his only client and previous owner of the house) – their murder was solved in the first book.

In exchange for the ghosts providing daily paranormal activities to please and encourage ghost-hunting guests, Alison agrees to get a private investigator's license to help Paul Harrison with investigative requests he receives from deceased clients. Scott McFarlane, one of those deceased clients, asks Paul to investigate a prank he was asked to play on a frail, old lady which he now fears caused her death. Who deceived him to murder and why?

The book is both an eccentric and traditional detective mystery, with a supernatural twist, that keeps you guessing right up to the end. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

"Funny, witty and a joy to listen to!"
What did you like best about this story?

It's a fresh take on the murder mystery genre, made very entertaining by the ghost factor, the woes of the guesthouse business and the very lovable family at the centre of the story. I'm halfway through the second book and loving it too.

    "Very disapointing."
Is there anything you would change about this book?

    So very old fashioned.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

    Boring

Was An Uninvited Ghost worth the listening time?

Not really. I became disenchanted with it so put it on while doing the house work just for some background noise.

    Any additional comments?

Not for me but others may find it interesting. Recommend you try sample first.
