Olivia Sanchez--smart, driven, and beautiful--started at the bottom and worked her way up the ranks of a brokerage firm only to be unjustly, brutally fired and then blackballed. With no place else to go, she turns to her cousin, ex-con and ex-gang leader Manny Guzman, for help. Manny's first instinct is to hit back. Hard. But his partner, James Beck, knows that out in the real world, things aren't done that way.
Beck, with a tight group of three other ex-cons, works out of a discreet base of operations in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Red Hook. To help Manny he and his partners, along with a network of close associates, offer to look into what happened to Olivia and fix it. But nothing is as simple as it first appears, and Beck and his men end up going to war against a formidable list of enemies: the politically connected CEO of a Manhattan brokerage firm; a Russian arms dealer; a small army of Bosnian war criminals; a ruthless gang of Russian mobsters; and, last but not least, the NYPD.
With too many foes coming at them from too many angles, Beck and his men are going to have to survive against impossible odds, avoid being sent back to prison, and ,in the process, steal $116 million.

I loved Beck. As a Jack Reacher fan,
I immediately was hooked on James
Beck. Hope more books are in his future. Such a damn good listen on Audible. Js
Excellent story line didn't wan to stop listening. Every second had me on edge waiting for the total plot and who was the real manipulator. Get this book the characters are all so believable.
Among the best books of the mystery/thriller genre. Intriguing main character. Good plot twists. I am looking for other books by this author.
Don't know what I want to be when I grow up. Trip's cool though. Use Audible to make gym-training sane... And rip my imagination.
Tried to like this book three different times. The characters are thinner than a runway model's arms and less inviting. The immediate scene's pumped so high that there's no place to go... So each time I tried, my interest burst from over action and no adventure. If you're an 11 to 13 year old boy, or know one who's not interested in reading...Maybe you should buy him this book. Outside of that demo, I'm at a loss to figure out who the publisher aimed this thing at... I'm returning it along with interest in buying another Clarkson novel.
Peter Berkrot read what I heard OK.
Unfortunately i wont get to listen to this novel cuz the 'acting' is so bad from Narrator Peter Berkot. He reads as if telling us a ghostly Victorian yarn spun by a grannie.
Believable, fast paced with compelling characters. Narrator had trouble with some accents. Not sure why everyone's voice had to sound so raspy. Good fight scenes. I'll get the next one if he continues the J. Beck series.
