Publisher's summary

Before he was considered a CIA superagent, before he was thought of as a terrorist's worst nightmare, and before he was both loathed and admired by the politicians on Capitol Hill, Mitch Rapp was a gifted college athlete without a care in the world...and then tragedy struck.

Two decades of cutthroat partisan politics has left the CIA and the country in an increasingly vulnerable position. Cold War veteran and CIA operations director Thomas Stansfield knows he must prepare his people for the next war. The rise of Islamic terrorism is coming, and it needs to be met abroad before it reaches America's shores. Stansfield directs his protégé, Irene Kennedy, and his old Cold War colleague Stan Hurley to form a new group of clandestine operatives who will work outside the normal chain of command - men who do not exist.

What type of man is willing to kill for his country without putting on a uniform? Kennedy finds him in the wake of the Pan Am Lockerbie terrorist attack. Two-hundred and seventy souls perished that cold December night, and thousands of family and friends were left searching for comfort. Mitch Rapp was one of them, but he was not interested in comfort. He wanted retribution.

Six months of intense training has prepared him to bring the war to the enemy's doorstep, and he does so with brutal efficiency. Rapp starts in Istanbul, where he assassinates the Turkish arms dealer who sold the explosives used in the Pan Am attack. Rapp then moves on to Hamburg with his team and across Europe, leaving a trail of bodies. All roads lead to Beirut, though, and what Rapp doesn't know is that the enemy is aware of his existence and has prepared a trap. The hunter is about to become the hunted, and Rapp will need every ounce of skill and cunning if he is to survive the war-ravaged city and its various terrorist factions.

Includes the first chapter from Vince Flynn and Kyle Mills' latest thriller, Enemy of the State!

So so much better than the movie.

I saw the trailer for the movie and decided to get the book. I sAW the movie before I finished the BOOK. The only things that the movie shares with the book is the name of the characters and the title, everything else is different, it hardly even the same thing. Highly recommend book for anybody who likes this genre.

Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp books are my favorites.

Loved it! All of the Mitch Rapp books are page turners. Vince understood how our intelligence apparatus works and wrote great stories about it.

Fun character to read about.

I picked this book up mostly because I love the "jack Reacher" novels, this looked very similar, and it was. I would suggest starting with an earlier book in the series, I didnt notice this was book eleven until i already bought it, so I was a little lost, but I was able to figure it out none the less. I would read another one in the future I love the hard hitting story lines with the strong characters.
Still like the "Reacher" novels more but still a fun read.

nicely done

When I find myself sitting in the driveway, waiting for a chapter to end, I know it's a good book. Great book and Guidall has always been my favorite, back to the Stephen King days. More than worth a credit..

Saw the Movie first and boy was I surprised

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I saw the movie first(which I really enjoyed) so I was hoping it was going to be as good if not better than that(books are almost always better than the movie) and it did not disappoint. The right amount of action, build up and that it ended in a way that was completely off guard.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hurley and Rapp were my favorites. Hurley because I saw where some of the scenes from the movie came from and the fact that he took no crap from anyone even in the worst type of situations. Rapp because the man knows how to get a job done and did it in a way that most of us might have in the situation.

Which character – as performed by George Guidall – was your favorite?

Hurley,

the change in his voice and the type of attitude he had really made the character pop for me.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

no laughing or crying but some scenes made me of OH S*@T,

Any additional comments?

Great book, using one of my credits on the next book right now. Here hoping it will be as good as this one.

Stan is the man!

I could almost visualize Stan being some crotchety old angry tough SOB specially in the interrogation room Mitch was cool but Stan stole the show, would be cool to see in a movie for sure
