"James Patterson does everything but stick our finger in a light socket to give us a buzz." (The New York Times)
"Cross is one of the great creations of thriller fiction." (Dallas Morning News)
The plot itself is decent enough but when the reader tried to stress excitement or fast-action, he only read quicker and did not change the pitch of his voice. I was disappointed. If you really want it, it is probably worth the money but you need to be sure to use your imagination to make up for the lack of the reader's.
Interesting storyline with enough convolutions, but trite dialog, full of well-worn cliches. And is it true that every cop cannot complete a sentence without the F word as portrayed in "Spider"?
This book absolutely kept me intrigued until the end...much better than the movie!! Im a big Patricia Cornwell fan and Ive already listened to or read all of the Kay Scarpetta series so I've been looking for a new audiobook series and it looks like Ive found it!! You wont be disappointed!!
The plot was good and the characters were OK. Plenty of twists and turns. I was disappointed that profanity was peppered through the book and it seemed like sex was thrown in more often than it needed to be. It didn't really advance the story.
Superb entertainment. Patterson is an intriguing storyteller. Turner is a dynamic Narrator. Together they deliver a truly engrossing experience. Worth every penny. Bravo!!!!!
I was really excited to read this book because I l have seen the Alex Cross movies and loved them, but I was very disappointed. His personality in the book is completely different and it makes no sense. The Alex Cross played by Morgan Freeman is calm, methodical, experienced, and always seems like the smartest guy in the room. Patterson writes this Cross like a fairly new detective who has spent his professional life on the police force. He has a bad temper and a chip on his shoulder. There was nothing about him that I related to or liked. Cross is a forensic psychologist and there was none of that in him in this book. He was hot tempered, unlikeable, and swears more than is appropriate for someone with that much education.
The movies are intricate and suspenseful, but the book is just boring and long. At one point they have the killer in custody and I thought it was almost over, but I realized I wasn't even half-way through! I like to be given clues, work things out, and use my brain, but in this I felt like there were random clue dumps along the way between a lot of unimportant and dull storyline.
I have read and reread this book. The movie on the other hand suck. For starters, they killed for Gary in the movie, which suck because Gary is in Pop Goes The Weasel. The other thing is that I think Will Smith should have played Alex Cross because he played Alhambra Alie, I think I spelled his name right, in the movie Alie. Plus they didn't show Alex Cross family throughout the movie, which suck as well. I think the book is better and everyone should read the book before watching the movie. They mess up the book with that movie.
If it had a believable plot. If there was any character worth caring about. Alex Cross and his NanaMama are racists.
The plot was so thin and unbelievable. Loose endings hanging here and there; never explained. I didn't like the romance between Alex and Jezzie. Too much time spent on that.
Voice is too deep.
Alex Cross - I didn't like him at all.
So disappointing. I have a friend who loves James Patterson and has always been encouraging me to read him. Since I am commuting every day now, I thought recorded books would be a good way to read some of his work. So wrong. I'll be looking for a different mystery/thriller/suspense author.
I have not seen the movie, so now I really want to. It was pretty good. I am used to books with more twists and turns, but this had decent ones.
Love the villains voice. The most memorable was when I found out his girlfriend was involved.
He read it perfectly. Voices were changed and gave character to each person.
