Publisher's summary

“Like all the best suspense novels, Alone will leave you shaken...You can't wait to see what happens next.” (People)

Who can you turn to when you’re at your most vulnerable?

State Trooper Bobby Dodge watches a tense hostage standoff through the scope of his sniper rifle. Dodge has only one second to react, or a woman and her child may die.

Where can you hide when this killer comes?

The woman at the other end of Bobby Dodge’s rifle isn’t only in trouble - she is trouble. Cool, beautiful, and dangerously sexy, Catherine Rose Gagnon’s life will change in an instant of violence.

It’s the most terrifying place to be...When Bobby pulls the trigger, someone will die. And then no one will be above suspicion, no one beyond harm.

And no one will see death coming until it has them cornered, helpless, and alone.

Great performance but drawn out story

Like all Lisa Gardner books this story was filled with turns and suspenseful twists. The performance was wonderful so no complains there. It took some time to get use to the readers voice and tone but once I did, I thoroughly enjoyed the reading.
This may be because it was the unabridged version, but many things were repeated multiple times over and over and over again. Certain points in the book I started to zone out. I would recommend an abridged version of available bc the story is still great

Captivating..

I actually liked the book, it took me 2 days to finish it. The story was very interesting and puzzling at the same time so of course I was curious to find out the end.

Love these books

Love these books so much I had to go back and listen to the first in the series since I didn’t realize this was a series until after I finished one of the other ones where it tied back to this book. Now I’m about to reread the ones I’ve already read in order before I continue listening to the last one in the series I haven’t yet started. If you love plot twists, murder, and who done it books, these books will not let you down.

Excited to read the whole series...

My young adult daughter recommended this series to me. We have the same taste and even though I usually don't read "detective" novels, I really enjoyed this one and plan to listen to them all. I agree with other reviewers that the narrator was not right for this book. She didn't have a lot of range. I couldn't always tell who was "talking" or "thinking" but the thrill of the book helped me overlook that. I'd recommend this book.

It was fine...

Unlike others, I didn't have a problem with the narration. Sometimes the publishers request the distinct voices and I thought the narrator did a decent job maintaining it.

I thought the book was fine, but not great. Mostly I was disappointed in the end, which felt like a big southern cliche to me, which I find particularly tedious from non-southern writers. The characters were fairly interesting, but after listening through the whole thing I was left feeling a little let down. I'm always looking for more thriller writers, but I may continue my search elsewhere.

Narrator ruined it for me

Fortunately I didn't start with this book first or I probably wouldn't have bothered with the others. I loved the others so much I decided to listen to this one too. I could'nt get past the first half. Dull, boring narration. I will be buying the book to read it.

Excellent read

Where does Alone rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

First Audio book. Loved it, my commute to work is long. I am almost disappointed to leave off when I get to work. I only listen in the car so my attitude is positive now rather dreading to get in the car and face the long commute.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I didn't have any in particular.

What about Anna Fields’s performance did you like?

Easy voice to listen to. She did a great job with both male and female voices without over doing it.

Any additional comments?

First of many Lisa Gardner's books for me.

Alone

It took me a little longer to get into this book than some, but once I was in..I was hooked.
It has more layers than one might have expected as it unfolds. The narrator was ok. For me, the voice she gave the male lead isn't the one I would have wanted---but it may work for others and the writer for all I know. I just like my males to sound more intelligent than this guy. It wasn't a big deal---when we get a hold of an interesting yarn--we are glad when we can tell the difference between the characters--and in that this narrator did a good job. Good story---not that shallow when one is drawn into considering the damage to a child victim of a crime. None of us can judge the kind of person the character became.
