Publisher's Summary

When a local girl falls prey to a sadistic serial killer, Nashville homicide lieutenant Taylor Jackson and her lover, FBI profiler Dr. John Baldwin, find themselves in a joint investigation pursuing a vicious murderer.

The Southern Strangler is slaughtering his way through the Southeast, leaving a gruesome memento at each crime scene – the prior victim’s severed hand.

Ambitious TV reporter Whitney Connolly is certain the Southern Strangler is her ticket out of Nashville; she’s got a scoop that could break the case. She has no idea how close to this story she really is – or what it will cost her.

As the killer spirals out of control, everyone involved must face a horrible truth – that the purest evil is born of private lies.

Solve more cases with Taylor Jackson.

    "Distracting subplot and uninteresting characters"

Not sure why this author felt the need to insert a subplot about a Rainman killer into this story. Quite frankly I had some difficulty differentiating between the Rainman and the Strangler, especially when my listens were short and spread out. The romance between Taylor and Baldwin added little or nothing to the story and their relationship gave us little worth remembering. As the book approached its conclusion, there was little left for the listener to figure out. The Strangler's motivation was a stretch and I just don't think this story was very believable, even for fiction. I would have liked to see better character development and improved story telling.

    "First in a new(to me) series-and great"

JT Ellison was a new author to me when I picked up the third or fourth book of this series-not realizing it was a series.

I knew about an hour into that book that there must have been previous books and went in search before I finished that book.
"All The Pretty Girls" is a good solid start to the Taylor Jackson, cop series.

Ellison finds a solid story arc and follows it to the end, remaining focused on the actual plot without all the extra stuff. Theres some sex but not as much as JD Robb's Eve Dallas, nor does Jackson have the hangups Dallas does..shes a much more believable woman cop.

Others have mentioned Joyce Beans poor southern accents..I'm sure that must be agonizing to those in the south and I understand each state has its own version of the classic Southern Drawl....but I'm in Oregon and for me, a bad southern accent is no more discernible than a Mexican accent is from a Guatemalan one. Were pretty homogenized up here. Texas sounds the same as Alabama as Tennessee to me.

Speaking of Joyce Bean-what a great choice as narrator. She does nicely though theres not a lot of variety in her mens voices still. she's a great narrator and one I'll look for in other works.

Very enjoyable light fiction, good for listening at night before sleep..not terribly scary so far at least.

Take a chance on Taylor Jackson..you just might enjoy this book.

Would you try another book from J. T. Ellison and/or Joyce Bean?

I took all the J.T. Ellison books off my wish list. I found the romance between the lead characters to be a distraction and thought it did very little to humanize them.

Would you recommend All the Pretty Girls to your friends? Why or why not?

I didn't enjoy the book but if you like a little romance with your detective/light perhaps it might appeal to you. I prefer a little more hard-boiled cop story with realistic police work. The heroine could have just as easily been a school teacher and there was very little detective work involved. Predictable and unimpressive.

reminiscent of J.D Robb's 'in death' series... a nuch paler version of characters & storylines, but easy to listen to & kept my attention.

"Had high expectations but the book fell short"
What disappointed you about All the Pretty Girls?

The narrator - Joyce Bean. I've listened to a lot of audio books and the narrator can enhance or detract from a story - Joyce Bean definitely did the latter. I don't know if the writing was as bad as I thought it was in some parts or if my annoyance at the narrator was effecting the way I felt about the writing. At one point, all the "Honey's" made me feel like I was listening to bad fan fiction.

The subplot of "The Rainman" was unnecessary. It was basically a filler subplot to give Taylor something to do while her FBI boyfriend was off chasing the Southern Strangler.

The characters weren't developed well enough. When I get to the end of a book, I'm usually so invested in the characters that I don't want it to end or I want to read more! This time around? I could care less about what happens with Taylor and John. Or Quinn and her husband. Or Reese.

Would you recommend All the Pretty Girls to your friends? Why or why not?

Probably not, but if I did, I would tell them to try to read the book and not to listen to the audio book.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I found her cadence to be distracting and annoying. With every new character I wondered why they didn't choose someone else to narrate.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The friendship between Taylor and the Coroner. It reminded me a bit of Beckett & Lanie's relationship from Castle. :)

Life long fan of the mystery story. I like books where something actually happens, so history and biography are favorites of mine also. I also think that even good books are improved tremendously when an actor performs the narration.

"Happy to discover a new mystery series"

As Sue Grafton's alphabet is nearing and end, I'm looking for detective novels featuring strong women to keep me entertained. J.T. Elison's Taylor Jackson seems to meet this need. A clever plot, interesting characters, and I want to know where Taylor and S.A. Baldwin end up.

    "Poor narration"

I found this audiobooks narration very poor, she sounded like one of those awful computer read books.
I did try to listen to this on several occasions but I either drifted off into my own thoughts or fell asleep.
perhaps if I read this book I would enjoy it as it seemed to be coming together nicely but alas I fell asleep again!

    "Poor"

I could'nt get on with the American female narrator; grating , long winded and easy for the mind to wonder away from the story. I came back to it 3 times but have now discarded it before end of part 1. Very slow and not enjoyable at all.A bad buy for me.
