Even though Agatha Raisin loathes Christmas panto, her friend, Mrs Bloxby, the vicar's wife, has persuaded her to support the local am dram society in their festive offering.
Stifling a yawn at the production of Babes in the Wood, Agatha watches the baker playing an ogre strut and threaten onstage until a trapdoor opens, followed by a scream and silence! Surely this wasn't the way the scene was rehearsed.
When it turns out the local baker had been murdered most horribly, Agatha puts her team of detectives on the case. And they soon discover more feuds and temperamental behaviour in amateur dramatics than in a professional stage show - and face more and more danger as Agatha and her team get too close to the killer.
M. C. Beaton was born in Scotland. She worked for many years as a journalist on Fleet Street. As well as the best-selling Agatha Raisin series, she is the author of the acclaimed Hamish Macbeth mysteries. She divides her time between the Cotswolds, where she lives in a village very much like Agatha's beloved Carsely, and Paris.

"Penelope keith a great narator"
Penelope keith is a great asset to these charming stories. Just the right mix of comedy and the macarbre
"entertaining with enough twists "
I love listening to penelope Keith. The characters are like old friends now! The plots are well thought out and Agatha is frustratingly real - I frequently find myself thinking 'Nooo don't do that!' as she gets herself into yet another embarrassing scrape.
"Easy and entertaining listening"
These Agatha Raisin novels are great for when you just want some easy and entertaining listening. Penelope Keith as always brings the characters to life.
The vulnerable yet strong character of Agatha.
"Love Agatha Raisin!!!!"
I love listening to Penelope Keith as Agatha Raisin in my opinion Penelope Keith is Agatha Raisin. This is my First Agatha Raisin book and now i want to listen to them all
Agatha Raisin was my favourite Character, i loved her attitude and how all her friends could see through her most of the time, this made me laugh
No this was my first time
It made me smile and laugh
Would definitely recommend this book if you like Miss Marple and midsomer murders and murder mystery's like this
Yet another adventure for the mature lady detective - yet again she lets her pursuit of the ideal man get in her way at times but continues with dogged determination to solve the puzzle of who is the murderer.
"Thank God for Penelope Keith"
It is amazing how a different narrator makes such a difference to how I respond to the same story . I bought the CD version of this book when it first came out a year ago and the narrator made the story sound boring and therefore disappointing - it took me a week to listen to that version . Then I bought this same book again when it was narrated by Penelope Keith and she just brought the story and characters to life so that I thoroughly enjoyed it as listened to it in just two days . That's because Penelope Keith IS Agatha Raisin as far as I'm concerned .
"Popcorn for the ears"
Easy listen with excellent narration and a story to keep the interest. Perfect for my commute and supermarket shop to make both so much more entertaining.
Another good story .If you like Agatha's other adventures you will enjoy this book. I love the way she has tricky life and worry's about all the stuff us older women do .Shame not more of that came into the TV shows.. Books are the best .With great characters . silly and fun.
"good book, great narrato narrator"
I admit that I enjoyed this book, more than I thought I would. However, for me the true diamond is the brilliant vocal talents of Penelope Keith
"My absolute favourite !!"
I'm a dyslexic person who never picked up a book until I heard Penelope Keith read Agatha Raisin. Hilarious, cozy, loveable books read by the perfect for person for the job. I couldn't imagine Agatha as anyone else after hearing Penelope's version. Excellent!!! I wish Penelope Keith had played her on the TV adaptation.
