Publisher's Summary

Agatha has fallen in love - again.

This time it's the local gardener, George Marston, she has her eye on. But competition for his attention abounds. With her shameless determination Agatha will do anything to get her man - including footing the bill for a charity ball in town just for the chance to dance with him. But when George is a no-show Agatha goes looking for him - and finds he has been murdered, having been bitten by a poisonous snake and buried in a compost heap. Agatha and the rest of her crew plunge into an investigation and discover that George had quite a complicated love life. And if Agatha now can't have George, at least she can have the satisfaction of confronting those women who have and finding a murderer in the process.

    "Another Enjoyable Tale"

Once again Agatha Raisin hits the mark, enjoyable to the end with such wonderful narration. A little escapism, a little fun and always a tittering moment within the pages.

A pleasure and just as good as the others in the series. If you want something unchallenging, entertaining that holds your attention then Agatha will not let you down.

"Agatha Raisin, Like me but with Money!!!"

Agatha (Aggie) is a great character, eccentric, prickly, selfish and normal. I have read all of the Agatha Raisin books, it is difficult to choose my favourite, Hiss & Hers is an easy listen & Penelope Keith epitimises Aggie, she is Aggie! All the characters are brilliantly crafted & likeable. Should you need cheering up listen to this I defy you not to smile, in fact any of the series will make you smile!! These books will appeal mostly to women of a certain age, if that makes me ageist & sexist so be it, I won't apologise.

    "Agatha again."

I enjoyed this latest installement of the Agatha Raisin series - they're not gritty, hard hitting or particulary believable but the characters of Mrs Bloxby, Bill Wong, Roy Silver and Agatha are likeable enough to keep you listening. Penelope Keith narrates this well and it was a pleasant accompaniment to a day's spring cleaning.

    "Comfort-listening at its best"

Listening to an Agatha Raisin audiobook is like curling up under a merino wool blanket with a large mug of tea on a rainy afternoon. It is a comforting, entertaining listen that's easy to follow and doesn't lose too much if you're multi-tasking (in my case, marking 180 exercise books and fending off a tantrumming toddler).

If you want a gentle, humorous, entertaining whodunnit then this is it. Old fans of Ms Raisin won't be disappointed and, though I would advise anyone to start with the first in the series (The Quieche of Death) and work their way through, I don't think it matters too much in terms of following the plot if you're new to Agatha's antics.

Not a highbrow literary masterpiece; not an edge-of-your-seat, hair-on-end, scare-a-minute thriller... but it loses nothing for this - a rib-tickling caper with a few close scrapes thrown in - Keep them coming Ms Beaton!

    "Cant wait to start listening"

Since the Agatha Raisin series is not available in German, I started reading them in English. Penepole Keith IS Agatha. I downloaded a lot of the audiobooks and after finishing one, I cant wait to start the next one.

    "A book that always delights"

In this day and age of vicious and often graphic crime thrillers, it's always nice to slip into an Agatha Raisin detective story. The Miss Marple of the Cotswolds never fails to entertain. I like crime thriller fiction too and am a fan of Peter James but I love M.C. Beaton Agatha Raisin series of books too. I have almost listened to them all and I am eagerly awaiting the next new publication. Whilst still a detective story it is a gentle one and the characters are like friends whom I visit from time to time. I usually like longer books of 12-14 hours but I am equally happy to listen to 6+ hour stories like these as well. The plot of Hiss and Hers is a bit far fetched in places and a bit too contrived, good luck happening too frequently to be true, but I am more happy to escape to Carsley and the Agatha Raisin Detective Agency.

    "Perfect rainy day listening!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Agatha Raisin: Hiss and Hers to be better than the print version?

I'm being honest when I say I haven't read this book, but what I do know, is when I have read Agatha Raisin books in the past, the voice in my head is Penelope Keith's and not my own!

What other book might you compare Agatha Raisin: Hiss and Hers to, and why?

I very much enjoyed this audiobook, as I do all of MC Beatons works. What other book is like this, well, it has to be said that they all run in the same sort of vain! That's not a negative comment, it's one basically saying, you know what your going to get and you won't be disappointed with it! If you enjoy Midsomer Murders, you watch it week in week out as you know it's going to be a 'good wholesome inoffensive murder', well, these books and audiobooks are the same!

Which character – as performed by Penelope Keith – was your favourite?

I think Penelope Keith is such an excellent actress, it's very hard to say which is my favourite voice. It's like listening to an entire cast when your listening to these books. I love the snobbery of Sir Charles, the young innocence of Toni and the spikiness of Agatha herself! It's a take your pick as they're all spot on!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I had the time, yes, I could easily listen to this in one sitting, but I can't. I usually listen to my audiobooks at night as its a total comfort to drift off to sleep whilst being read a story! Childhood being revisited! If I have a few minutes in the afternoon free, rather than watch the telly and it's boring afternoon viewing, I'll have a coffee and a 45 minutes listen, although, it seems like about 15 minutes as you just get carried along in the adventure!

    Any additional comments?

To me Penelope Keith is now Agatha Raisin and all her friends, which makes it a little unfair on the television cast! In fact, I don't think I'll be watching when the series comes out, as my vision of Agatha and Co is now perfect in my imagination! These books can't come out fast enough to satisfy the AR fans! They are excellent easy listening, especially on a rainy day/evening!

    "Good Fun"

I have enjoyed most of this series and this one lived up to the standard of the others. Penelope Keith is easy to listen to and adds to the overall story. The characters are consistent and familiar. Personally I hope there are a lot more Agatha Raisin stories to come.
