Publisher's summary

Acid Test takes off like a rocket in the first chapter and never slows down, speeding listeners around the globe for an electrifying adventure. The premise is chilling: What if the world was suddenly rocked by widespread murder, political chaos, and the peril of nuclear attack?

The ruthless Batu Khan has forged an empire across Mongolia and central Asia. He has developed a frightening arsenal of weaponry and uses mind-altering drugs to give his minions superhuman strength. When Khan invades the Ukraine, the president of the United States issues an ultimatum: get out or else. But the president harbors a dark and deadly secret that may put countless lives at risk.

Ross LaManna is a Hollywood screenwriter whose credits include Rush Hour. He fills this thriller with high-tech terror and non-stop action reminiscent of a Tom Clancy or Stephen Coonts novel. George Guidall's gripping narration captures each moment of the mounting suspense and danger.

Excellent story phenomenal performance!

Very good story and likable characters. Good action on an international scale. Really bad guys, high tech weaponry, and political intrigue. Phenomenal performance by George Guidall as usual.

Cinematic Thriller!

This book was a genuinely wild ride. The action was fast paced and constant, but the main characters were interesting and appealing. The reason the book seemed cinematic was that the author had been a reasonably successful screenwriter for 10 years as of last summer. This is his first successful novel. I hope he produces more books involving the same characters, as he suggested he might in an interview appended to the end of this recorded edition. Strongly recommended for people who enjoy action thrillers about the near future and possible security threats to the United States.

One of the best narrators

Story moved with fast paced intensity but no one else could have delivered the story except George. When I start any nook narrated by him, I just settle in for an excellent ride.

not bad

the premise was a bit far fetched, there seems to be a deluge of books centering on some sort of central asian federation or alliance threatening europe, or china or the US., not gonna happen , this one was a ganghis kahn follower, the other was an alexander the great follower, the over all reading was ok but not great

George Guidall is my favorite! Listen to see why!

What made the experience of listening to Acid Test the most enjoyable?

George Guidall really did a good job with this one! He is my favorite narrator from Recorded Books!

What other book might you compare Acid Test to and why?

Any book by Vince Flynn. These books have characters in the military or police, trying to overcome political indifference and succeeding.

Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I have listened to many other books by George Guidall. Marker, Seizure Foreign Body to name a few. George Guidall brings any book he reads to life, and this was just one that I could not get out of my head.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes. When MATT Wilder is trying to save Cowling's girlfriend from being electrocuted by Cowling, I was really rivited. I was really hoping that he would be successful, and was glad when Cowling turned out the way that he did! He deserved it!

Any additional comments?

Actually, yes. I am not certain who is responsible for this, but I had a lot of trouble navigating through this audiobook. Rather than being placed at the beginning of the chapters, the heading markers were placed at various scenes throughout the audiobook. If I lost my place, it became very difficult to find where I had left off. If it can happen, it would be helpful if someone could place the heading markers at the beginning of the chapters in this audiobook. Thank you very much. Happy listening!

Where was the thriller I was promised?

Would you try another book from Ross LeManna and/or George Guidall?

I would not from Ross LeManna, but I do enjoy Guidall's narration. That's how I found this book initially -- searching for more items narrated by him.

Has Acid Test turned you off from other books in this genre?

It's only reinforced that there are MUCH better books in this genre. I've stopped listening after chapter 18 -- it moves at a pretty glacial pace, and offers up far more context than actual storyline. Do we really need an entire chapter that follows the antics of Wilder and the US attorney attempting to secure a subpoena? Do we really need to elucidate every single connection among the yuppie murders? After the third lightbulb, we get it.
