Publisher's summary

New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award-winning author Lisa Scottoline revolutionized crime fiction when she introduced her Philadelphia-based all-female law firm of Rosato & Associates, thrilling listeners with her twisty, fast-paced plots and capturing their hearts with her cast of strong and relatable female characters.

Now Bennie Rosato, Mary DiNunzio, Judy Carrier, and Anne Murphy are back with all cylinders firing in Accused.

Mary Dinuzio has just been promoted to partner and is about to take on her most unusual case yet, brought to the firm by a thirteen-year-old genius with a penchant for beekeeping. Allegra Gardner's sister Fiona was murdered six years ago, and it seemed like an open-and-shut case: the accused, Lonnie Stall, was seen fleeing the scene; his blood was on Fiona and her blood was on him; most damningly, Lonnie Stall pleaded guilty. But Allegra believes Lonnie is innocent and has been wrongly imprisoned. The Gardner family is one of the most powerful in the country and Allegra's parents don't believe in reopening the case, so taking it on is risky. But the Rosato & Associates firm can never resist an underdog. Was justice really served all those years ago? It will take a team of unstoppable female lawyers, plus one thirteen-year-old genius, to find out.

I would rate the narrator a 10 star if possible!

I love the main characters in Scottoline's books..female lawyers. There are such great endearing supporting characters which I find women mystery authors (Sue Grafton, Kathleen Taylor) deliver so well. Scottoline's Phillie background is portrayed flawlessly, lovingly and with great humor.

And then there is the narrator, Jennifer LeVoy...holy moly she is SO, SO good!!! Well maybe her British accent could a little help but the rest of her voices were terrific.

So if you want to have a truly great book for binge listening this would be the one to buy.

Reader drove me crazy ...

Would you try another book from Lisa Scottoline and/or January LaVoy?

Probably not. The story was pretty good, I would have enjoyed READING it. Listening to it was often aggravating. Thank god the relatives didn't play a bigger part in the story. Their yelling drove me nuts.

What did you like best about this story?

The story was interesting, definitely not one where you could easily figure out 'who done it'.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Her need to make all the italians YELL, was extremely aggravating.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No.

Baby talk and screaming is not entertaining

Would you try another book from Lisa Scottoline and/or January LaVoy?

Yes from Lisa, no from January.
This book is serious and the screaming and baby talk almost made me give up on the book. But the writing of LS made me hold out and fast forward thru some really bad parts.

What didn’t you like about January LaVoy’s performance?

Voices Were Fun and Results Were Unexpected

I really like the people and "a crime story with a family...". The people are identifiable and real and deep without drowning the listener in intrusive details. The ending was not what I expected. Easy listen with tension and suspense without overwhelming the listener. The narrator did a fantastic job.

Annoying

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would limit the time spent with Mary's family. I really got tired of listening to her father screaming at me - yes I get that he has hearing issues and won't wear a hearing aid but it's just not funny and very annoying after the first few minutes.

If you’ve listened to books by Lisa Scottoline before, how does this one compare?

The plot was really good but this one was too focused on her whacky family and it just seemed silly

What didn’t you like about January LaVoy’s performance?

The screaming father was my least favorite thing

Do you think Accused needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

no

Easy reading

I was looking for easy entertainment and found it. It's a fun story about women lawyers. I might have to others in the series to learn more about lead characters.
The narration was excellent. Each character was unique and you could tell if it was male or female.
I got discouraged in the middle thing LS was taking too easy of a path in the story, but she knew what she was doing and surprised us at the end.

Glad they're back, but

The absolute worst characterisation of a Black Woman of faith I've heard in years! Made me think of the stereotype from 1940's
