Publisher's summary

Twisted vengeance. A kill list. And a bizarre riddle.

Recruited to investigate a string of grisly murders, FBI agent Alex Troutt is without words. The mutilations are unlike anything she's ever witnessed.

The slayings don't stop. There is no pattern. With the aid of a CIA agent, Alex tracks the assassin down the east coast. But every step forward proves to be a step too late, the kill list seemingly endless.

And then the killer turns it up a notch. It's a vendetta unlike any other, because a killer must make it personal.

Alex has no other option: To end the murders, she must confront the person who destroyed her life. And when she finally learns the killer’s end game, every second counts if she has any hope of stopping the brutal murders.

The hunt will end. Will Alex?

So-So

A fairly run of the mill serial killer novel. It was interesting enough to finish but not so interesting thatI I would read any more by this author.

Thrilling book!

I I loved when I read the book and keeping up with the Alex trout series is great, but listening to it on Audible makes the story just come to life and so much more interesting... it's hard to stop listening and put it down!

Must have Series !!!

"Best of the series yet."

"Edge of your seat thriller from beginning to end."

This is an extremely fast moving story; a page turner, if you will, and holds plenty of twists to keep the reader just a bit off balance right up until the end.
Excellent narration.. hands down.. wickedly Suspenseful . ..  "I was provided this audio book at no charge by the narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via AudiobookBoom dot com".

Author John W Mefford is new to me

Audible listener Shelley has very recently posted two 5 star reviews of the Ivy Nash modern detective thriller series novels by John W Mefford. I looked up the author and found that he had earlier written the Alex Troutt modern detective thriller series, so I decided to try some of the books. AT Large is Book 2 in the six novel Alex Troutt series. I doubtless missed some background details by failing to listen to AT Bay first, but such details are not very important to the story of FBI Special Agent Alex Troutt's hunt for a high profile female serial killer. Along the way the listener learns a lot about Troutt's background and family of a teen daughter and 11 year old son as well as about her cheating ex-husband who is now dead.

AT Large (the AT are the protagonist's initials) is a solid 5 star thriller with a fascinating protagonist, lots of action, and constantly building suspense. I had never listened to any audio book narrated by Jodie Bentley. She does a great job.

Even larger

Any additional comments?

I can't deny it, I am a big fan of John Mefford's Alex Troutt series and have read all six books so was delighted when they started to appear in audio. Second in the series, At Large is a stand alone but knowledge of the first book does slightly enhance the background to this story, even though pertinent details from At Bay are filled in completely, without disruption to the story, as the investigation unfolds.
At Large is a good thriller, more a why-done-it than a who? as parts of the story are told from the killer's perspective. But the real excellence of this book, as with it's predecessor, comes from the ongoing character development of the main protagonist, Alex, an F.B.I. agent, who is still trying to sort her memories after an amnesia resulting from an earlier injury. As she discovers herself, so do we. But forgetfulness in no way dampened her feisty, even aggressive, character and the interplay between her and her colleagues is pure joy. Her difficult family life is cute, too.
The narrator, Jodie Bentley, makes a great interpretation of Alex, with her slightly dismissive, sardonic approach to colleagues as she tackles both crime and her life. Her voicing of other characters is also distinct, though sometimes, as with Gretchen, a little twee. But, overall a competent and enjoyable performance.
Good story, good narration, great characters and dialogue, well written and a pleasure to hear. What are you waiting for? Buy it now and enjoy

Another Winners from John W Mefford

This is the second in the Alex Troutt series. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. This novel is suspenseful and interesting. I recommend it to fans of detective mysteries. The narrator did a good job, and I look forward to hearing more of the author's books.
