Publisher's summary
Two years after Nina Peterson's brutal murder, her husband, Steve, is still fighting to bring the killer to justice. Their six-year-old son, Neil, remains haunted by the terrible vision of the murderer's hands wrapped around his mother's throat. And Sharon Martin, who has grown to love both Steve and Neil, wishes only to ease their pain and suffering. But as 19-year-old Ronald Thompson sits wrongly convicted on the eve of his execution, a stranger is still watching - still plotting as he did before, living for the moment when he can kill and kill again.

Story
When Victor Holland came flying out of the night, he ran straight into the path of Catherine Weaver's car. Having uncovered a terrifying secret that leads all the way to Washington, Victor is running for his life - and from the men who will go to any lengths to silence him. Story
This rape case is different from most: the victim is more than willing to testify and there's ample evidence to put the suspect behind bars. But one thing gnaws at Detective Larry Millsaps - young and beautiful Melissa Nelson knows too much about the evidence needed to convict her attacker. Millsaps's investigation unearths the suspect's brutal track record, but also some stunning revelations about Melissa's own past. Caught in a deadly conflict between the ironies of the law and the demands of his Christian convictions, the detective finds himself protecting Melissa - even as evidence mounts that could imprison not only an inhuman criminal, but also the woman Millsaps has come to love.

Mary Never Disappoints
The story was good, although I was able to piece things together before they were revealed, so there were no surprises. Still, I enjoyed it. Ms. Buckley’s narration proved rather flat, but was easy in the ear.

Unusually good for an abridged book
I generally detest abridged books, but this one was easy to follow, and kept the story intact reasonably well. Had it been the full version, I probably would have given it 5 stars.
The performance was a bit dragged, but MHC has much better readers these days. This one did have clear pronunciation and enunciation. Very nice, as that isn't always the case.

Abridged version too disjointed
I love Mary Higgins Clark and I have enjoyed her abridged books but this one is missing so much that it really isn’t pleasant. It’s disjointed. The narrator has a nice voice. On to the next one. I’m trying to read / listen to them all.
