Most families have skeletons in their closets
Moving back into her parents' house with her teenage daughter had not been Georgia Thackery's Plan A. But when she got a job at the local college, it seemed the sensible thing to do. So she settled in and began reconnecting with old friends.
Including Sid. Sid is the Thackery family's skeleton. He's lived in the house as long as Georgia can remember, although no one, including Sid, knows exactly where he came from and how he came to be a skeleton.
Sid walks, he talks, he makes bad jokes, he tries to keep Georgia's dog from considering him a snack. And he manages to persuade Georgia to let him leave the house. But when she takes him to an anime convention disguised as a skeleton, of course he sees a woman who triggers memories of his past.
Now he is determined to find out how he died with Georgia's help. But their investigation may uncover a killer who's still alive and well and bad to the bone.
First in a new mystery series!

Georgia Thackery. She's independent, witty, and strong. She loves her daughter and her best friend, Sid, and would do anything to help them.
Very good depiction of academia and all its politics. Very good banter between Sid and Georgia.
Just plan fun.
Sid, a very likable skelton
I laughed the entire time I listened
Looking forward to many, many sequels.
Sometimes I am in the mood for a "cosy" style mystery. A mystery that has an intriguing plot, likable characters, an interesting setting, a bit of humor, and moves along at a relaxed, steady pace. For me this was that kind of book.
In order to enjoy this book you will need to be able to suspend your disbelief to accept a skeleton who walks, talks, and loses a few bones when he's feeling down, You must also accept that this skeleton (whose name is Sid) has been part of a family for over 30 years.
Main character Georgia Thackery is a college professor, daughter of two college professors. I know almost nothing about the academic world, so this aspect of the story was interesting to me.
Narrator Katina Kalin is excellent. I was never confused about which character was speaking. And I was never distracted by extreme character "voices".
This is a book you can listen to while driving, doing chores, going to sleep, or just relaxing. I found the book to be very entertaining. I look forward to reading more books in this series.
No, once was enough. It is a hard story to classify. It's not your typical cozy mystery because one of the main characters is a skeleton. It's not a good paranormal mystery because the "unworldly" aspect of the book is dealt with in a matter of fact manner and with little interest.
The biggest problem was the lack of character development.
The teenaged daughter is just a typical teen. The mom is an adjunct professor whose claim to interest is her constant bemoaning her job choice. Sid, the skeleton, has no memory of his life and only knows what he's read in books. All in all not a great cast.
The mystery is to figure out who Sid had been in life and why he died.
Georgia taking Sid to be analyzed for Sex, age, ethnicity, etc...
It depends on whether it's being written for adults or children!
Another Diana Gabaldon book, probably.
Depends upon the book.
Again, if it's being written for children it would make a promising series, but otherwise no.
The cover caught my attention, the story kept it. I laughed out loud as I drove to and from work.
Sid was funny with his 'bad' bone jokes. As the story progressed, I wanted to know more about him.
A real skeleton in the closet!
Awaiting the next book in the series!
As a mom of young children I like to listen while I do laundry or dishes etc. Audio books give me the chance to read (listen) more!
Someone more willing to suspend belief for a corny talking skeleton. If the talking skeleton were more creative or had more depth, this could have potential. As is it was lackluster.
The main character was nice but just silly at home with her best friend the skeleton. (?!)
Possibly someone who could lend a darker/ sinister hint and make some of the silly more palatable.
Disappointment. I thought the description had potential.
"Well read and well written!"
A great escapist novel, for when you don't want to read anything Kevvy that you equally don't want to read anything too stupid. An original murder mystery episode, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
"easy listening mystery."
enjoyed this story of geargia and sid trying to find out who he was.
well written by leigh perry and performed by Katina katlin.
looking forward to the next books in the series.
"Bones in the house."
In this book we meet the main characters in what promises to be a good series. One for the wish list.
This was a nice little romp into fantasy land with a bit of a crime twist. Okay, so the whole idea is nothing new; but as a book it works well if you want something that won't tax the old grey cells, yet is well written enough to satisfy for a slightly more serious listen. The only problem I had was the fact that the author expected you to have knowledge about the intricacies of how the American college system works. However, I'm in the UK, so that lack of understanding could just be a cultural thing. Therefore I'm not marking the story down.
I have enjoyed the E.J Copperman 'Haunted Guesthouse' series, and this book is very reminiscent of those books.
The narrator was pleasant enough. Plus the sound engineering was of decent quality, something that has been an issue with certain downloaded books.
On the strength of this first book I have decided to give the next two books a go, and I hope they read in the same vein.
"odd story line-gets better"
another book which takes a little time to get "into" but enjoyed non the less. I may be tempted into trying another in the series..
sorry. not my cup of tea. nothing to keep me hooked. could well appeal to others. listen and return or keep as appropriate.
