another great Longmire drama

another Walt Longmire mystery that is filled with the pursuit of evil men leaving a wake of chaos. a repeated theme that price does not equal value is noted.

This Review Needs a title

The ninth entry in the Walt Longmire series finds the Wyoming sheriff on the road, traveling between splinter sects of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Henry Standing Bear is a large presence in this book-- character and humor are always welcome and he plays a larger role then usual. Vic is also a large factor in Walt's life. I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to #10.

I Rarely Find Books Deserving of Five Stars

...but this is it. I read this book because, as a fan of this series, I have eagerly awaited the release of this newest book ever since I finished reading the other eight a few months ago.

Walt Longmire is an incredibly likable character. He is humble, brave, self-deprecating, sensible, and fallible, all while managing to be a salt-of-the-earth kind of charming. The supporting characters draw the reader in even further, each with his or her well-developed role, strengths, and flaws. The culture of Wyoming and the American West gives great flavor and lets this be a learning experience (I'm an east-coaster) at the same time.

And then there is the story. Twists, turns, action, romance, mystery, balanced with well-written dialogue and the sturdy cast of characters -- it's a page-turner that will make you laugh, cry, and cling to the edge of your seat.

If that weren't enough, let's layer on the fantastic narrator, who does an incredible job of bringing the characters and the emotion and pace of the story to life. It is truly incredible how remarkably consistent he is with the different voices.

My commute is my only audiobook time, so I listen in fits and starts and sometimes zone out for a bit. With this book, I found myself rewinding every time I started up again or found myself zoning out. I tried to savor every word because I just did not want it to end. (I won't spoil it with details -- but it ends with a kick.)

Even if you haven't read the other books in the series, you could start here. If you don't love this book, I wouldn't bother reading more of them -- but if you do love it, you are in for a treat. There are eight more!!

Nice spending time with Walt

This Wyoming sheriff’s tale involves a “lost boy” from a fundamentalist Mormon group, an old man building space ships in his backyard for the Rapture, oil drilling and a few CIA agents. At this point in the series, I simply enjoy spending time with the characters and with Johnson’s wonderful writing. The ending felt like a 1980s Schwarzenegger movie. Grade: B+

Perfect narration.

Yes and No. Great but...

I don't know what it is but I have a hard time listening to this. I love the story, the characters, and the voices but for some odd reason I can't follow it which frustrates me no end. Too low octaves, not clear enough tones? I'm puzzled.

Modern Western

This pretty much a modern Western, right down to the tough woman standing by her man and a shootout with the bad guys. Totally enjoyable.

LOVE WALT

Would you consider the audio edition of A Serpent's Tooth to be better than the print version?

Only listen to books

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

George rocks Walt Longmire. If he doesn't narrate them, it won't be Walt.

Any additional comments?

Finished this book yesterday, after listening to the whole set of books, I re-listened to the whole set again. Now the withdrawal is setting in. Best books I've listened to

If Your a Longmire Fan - You'll Enjoy It!

Would you listen to A Serpent's Tooth again? Why?

Yes - I am not given to listening to books over again but if I were to this would be one I would pick up a second time.

What did you like best about this story?

I have to confess my prejudice - I am a Longmire Fan. I had not heard of the Longmire series until the TV series came out. I enjoyed it and have loved the books. I just enjoy the entire laid back, western approach to crime and life in the Longmire character. In addition, the story lines keep me listening.

What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He seems to hit the Longmire persona on the head

Any additional comments?

If you like Longmire - I highly recommend.
