Great book, perfect narrator

Really, what else is there to say? Johnson continues to turn out terrific books with a beautiful sense of time and place and with characters who are people you want to know (except for the bad guys of course!) I so enjoy the humor interlaced throughout and the telling could not be better done. Guidall is fabulous.

What can you say about these books?

Different kind of book report for this one. I learned there was a Longmire TV show this year, season two. So the books wouldn't be spoiled by the TV show, I read all of the Longmire books out at that time. I then watched Season 1 & 2 of Lognmire. As with most movie and TV book adaptions, the book is usually better and it's the same with the Longmire books. The TV series stays true to the character of Walt Longmire but takes liberties with the rest of the story. I enjoyed teh TV show but it stands on its own from the books. I wonder what author Craig Johnson thinks about this? He's probably making enough money off the TV series he's probably not that concerned. Plus the money the books are bringing in, i'm sure he's doing very well, thank you. But the TV season ended and up then came this new book. I was glad to have it and get back into listening to the Longmire saga. In this tale, there are polygamist Mormons, oil, some really bad people and some really good people. Craig Johnson's writing style is excellent, witty, it flows and his character development is second to none. If I were to classify the genre I'd call it a modern day western being set in Wyoming. If you were interested in this series, I recommend starting with book 1. I have really enjoyed every single book in the series. PS Narrator George Guidall is a great one!

Johnson and Guidall do it again

I think Johnson and Guidall were put on this earth just to entertain us. I have purchased all of the books in this series and can't wait until the next one, which is a long time off. I don't know which book is best but this ranks right up there. Johnson takes you thru the entire rang of human emotions all the way to the very end. You can't help but love all the characters in this book mainly because of the way Johnson shows their love and respect for each other. I keep asking myself how do you come up with a beautiful, hard swearing cop from Philadelphia, drop her in Wyoming, have her fall in love with a small town sheriff twice her and make it work. I don't know but it does.

Doesn't Disappoint

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, but it would help to have read at least some of the earlier works to be grounded and know who the players are.

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

I like George Guidell's voice and the inflections. He is one of the "old guard" but does it best. I could listen to the dictionary if narrated by George.

Any additional comments?

This one is a little different than the books that came before - not bad, not good just different. The subject may have been done before, but it is still appropriate for the area.

The writing keeps getting better.

The scenery of the western landscape and Craig Johnson’s ability to move from solemn and deep to light and funny just keeps getting sharper. And Oh, for a Henry to be in my life...even a fictional one provides sagacity and humor beyond any mortal capacity.

Another Great One

Another solid entry into the Longmire series. This one especially is very important to the threads of the further books in the series, a must read.
