Nobody knows that Laurel Bay can see and talk to ghosts. When she inherits a funeral home, she is forced to return from the city to the small town of Witch Woods to breathe life into the business. It is a grave responsibility, but Laurel is determined that this will be no dead-end job.
There she has to contend with her manipulative and overly religious mother, more than one ghost, and a secretive but handsome accountant.
When the murder of a local woman in the funeral home strangles the finances, can Laurel solve the murder?
Or will this be the death of her business?

I have actually been a listener since 2010 (long story). I LOVE audiobooks and can't begin to give a fav author or narrator there are many!
Well I considering I own almost 500 (only 100 not heard, good deals happen on future books in a series and you gotta get them), this will be difficult. I would say in the genre/category that A Ghost of a Chance is in (Paranormal/Supernatural Mystery/Thrillers), it is in my top 5 authors.
I think the plot kept good suspense and gave me things to consider (then reconsider)...I don't want to give all the goodies away. I love the "livelier" funerals and the pastor's participation in them, no never know what he will do next. I really want to know what Mr. Hottie Accountant is in to.
I think the narration matched the pace; however, I feel the narrator could have more inflections of the characters' feelings especially the annoyance or exasperation coming from Laurel Bay when dealing with her mother.
Yes I would have liked to listen to this all in one sitting.
I admire the fact that Morgana Best has written about more than one "ghostly" in tuned heroine, but that they are vastly different characters. Morgana created vivid heroines that are touched with supernatural gifts, and yet they stand completely apart from each other with their own stories to tell.
I love the wit and sarcasm of the main character. She brings a laugh at just the right moment every time.
I kept waiting for the next laugh. And it produced every time.
She had good inflection at the right moments.
I was thoroughly involved with the whole story.
This was an extremely good story line. I recommend it. Especially if you enjoy sarcasm.
I would call the mother obnoxious, and not just because of her brand of blatantly hypocritical religiosity. But Laurel is barely managing not to strangle her. So, there's the resident ghost, the temporary ghost who wants her murder solved, the droolworthy accountant, the KISS funeral, the Elvis funeral, and the rest of the town loonies. I loved it and it was a real gigglefest!
Laura Holloway does an adequate job as narrator, but bland. And she sounds American when the book is set in Australia.
Even though this is a murder mystery, there were several spots that warranted an out and out chuckle.
I can't wait to grab the rest of this series!
Loved this book. Great characters, fun story line, and unique location make for an enjoyable reading/listening experience. You will be glad to have spent some time here.
