Publisher's summary

Joining the ranks of Graham Greene and John le Carre, the newest master of international suspense, Daniel Silva has crafted a novel of astonishing intricacy and intelligence.

Sent to Vienna to authenticate a painting, the art restorer and sometime spy Gabriel Allon is sidetracked by a photograph that throws his world upside-down. Could it really be the face of a man who during the last days of World War II had brutalized his mother on the Death March from Auschwitz?

Questions abound when Allon, driven by an intensity he had not felt in years, begins to investigate, discovering in the process that the hunt for one man is a hunt for many-and a network of unimaginable evil spanning sixty years.

"[A] world-class practitioner of spy fiction.... Silva writes with style, economy and a sure command of the historical record…a skillful novelist who does justice to the often heartbreaking material without exploiting it." (The Washington Post Book World)

"Superbly crafted narrative of espionage and foreign intrigue....Action and suspense abound, but this is serious fiction with a serious purpose." (Publishers Weekly)

"Daniel Silva has now indisputably joined the ranks of Graham Greene and John le Carre." (Chicago Tribune)

Excellent

another excellent story from Daniel Silva. I have never read one of Silva's books-l've only listened to them on audible. the narrator of all of the books so far is among the best narrators I've ever listened to to. he brings the work to life and puts the listener into the world of the characters.

Silva Is on to something - Alon is exciting

“Alon” is one of the best spy series ever. I stumbled upon this first book; Death in Vienna and never looked back. Get the series, latest Book is House of Spies (17th in this series) you will not be sorry.

LIZKOR

This was a great novel and very interesting to listen to. Silva drew a very detailed picture of the events, reminding us never to forget what happend. I am new to spy novels, having only listened to Littell's "The Company". I am definately going to listen to ever Silva book out there and hope some of his material will be made into movies.

Great rebound from Vol 3!

Excellent story and though fiction, a stand-out and needed reminder of the horrid events of history. It's hard to fathom the tragic realities of the holocaust occurred less than a 100 years ago.

Best book yet

I am a fan of Silva’s novels, and this is his best book yet. Not only is the plot engaging, but the subject of the story—the evil acts committed by the Nazis during the Holocaust and their postwar efforts to cast doubt on the historical record—is of immense and timely importance.
