Enjoyed the story telling immensely and was able to lose myself in the characterization. Some stories are very interesting but the narration is painful to listen to and you can't stay with it. This is read extremely well and full of emotion. Rather like being at a play.
The storyline is full of the description of place and scene setting that I love, but the action takes so long to unravel. It needs a faster pace to cut to the chase.
Yes, but that would take too long. I enjoy listening to it in long passages in the evening in place of the boring summer tv.
I think a tighter storyline with more action than personal introspection would be better. The whole Paul storyline where the protagonist breaks up from her husband was frankly not neccessary to the plot at all and didn't go anywhere in the end. Also, the story just seems to stop as if there had been little point to the whole thing.
I love books!
I have read/listened to several Clare Franics books now. They are mysteries, not really thrillers, that do keep you wondering what's going on and make it easy going back to the book. The narrator was good with the different characters. It was a good yarn and I'm sure I'll get some more of her books.
Excellent novel. Will read more by this author. I especially enjoyed the narrator of this book. She's just a natural book reader. Will look for her narration on other books.
Not a story to listen to more than once, since the suspense comes from the big denouncement at the end. ( I could see this coming, but the great narrator's total commitment to the characters kept my attention )
Honestly, I found ALL of the characters to be rather reprehensible to varying degrees, excluding the first person narrator, Grace. And, for a high-level criminal defense attorney, she was a bit of a push-over. Again, it was the excellent narration that kept me involved in the story.
Everything. It was like listening to a radio drama, with each character "acted" out.
A suspenseful story, but the only emotion I felt was disgust and anger at the behavior of everyone but Grace.
