    "Very disappointing"

    Totally predictable story
    Childlike performance
All the characters are stereotyped, soulless, and you figure out the very first minute who is going to be the bad guy.
    I strongly recommend against it

"ROOTING FOR A GOOD OUTCOME - NOT DISAPPOINTED"

This is such a sad story but one that I wanted to finish to find out if the outcome would be as I had hoped. It always left me feeling so bad for the main character and totally disliking the "bad guy". MHC did a good job of pacing this story. Hard to say more without being a spoiler for those considering the "read".

Would have given it complete 5 stars if not for the narrator. Not too bad - just not stellar,

    "too many gaps"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Building up the characters, and the gaps in the story made this story maddening to figure out. The children's characters and opinions in the story would have made this story more believable. The author seemed to skip an opportunity to blend all the characters and make it believable. The narration seemed whiney and monotone which made it difficult to follow.+

Would you ever listen to anything by Mary Higgins Clark again?

    maybe

What didn’t you like about Carol Higgins Clark’s performance?

    whiney, monotone

What character would you cut from A Cry in the Night?

    none

"Not as good as 'pretend you don't see her' by same author"

It would have been better to introduce the prologue, as it was confusing when it went back in time without you knowing.
